Lots of blue light tend to cause short internodes as well as big broad leaves and thick stems..

The plant is bushy if you don't shave her :stoned:  it doesn't hurt the plant if you remove new leaves etc very early man. It's like clipping some nails. Anyway nobody says you have to.

Here are some of my plants in their new life   (I also have one further along and an even more mini one)

Bushy bush is bushin'. She aborted a couple buds and has decided to grow "only" 8 branches now. Hopefully no more deformed leaves from now on. Fertilizing her with a strong solution was clearly a mistake.

Happy New Year everyone!

I really can't wait to start some Salvia. I found a few online vendors but I'm going to wait till it warms up a bit to order. It is supposed to get into the mid teens tonite!

Hope everyone's Sallys are doing fine in 2018! :sunny:

In this household:
Sangeeta is growing nicely, although still slowly. It appears to be true that the smaller the Plant one starts out with (see her a month ago), the slower the growth before they reach a certain size. Now she's about the same size as Rosalinda's the largest branch.

Rosalinda did get topped in the end, five days ago -- hope I didn't stress her out too much but my gut feeling told me it would be OK; it was too many branches anyway:

The top cutting, Audrey, is next to her Mom in the jar so that they can talk :sunny:

Audrey is starting out with many small branches. Has the potential for quite a bushy baby plant. Almost at the one week mark, we should start seeing roots soon.

I just got a new plant the other day.. quidded a few leaves today and there seemed to be a real impact on vision. Things looked more 3d and colourful, and just felt more 'present' in a sense.. was really nice, but unsure if it is placebo as I had also been meditating. Is this common?

Also, is it best to pick leaves where new shoots are already growing at the base of it's stem?

Hi everyone! Long time no post...

So I still have my Salvia plants some how. Still have mites too but they are mostly in check, just can't get rid of the fuckers. I have some cuttings that are free of the mite plague though.

I am confident to say that Salvia is an incredibly hardy and extremely difficult to kill. Even over watering should not kill these ladies! I've had cuttings sitting in cups of water for months on end without adding or changing the water and they survive just fine and would probably die from lack of nitrogen before root rot.
They also handle cold weather a lot better than I would have expected. I have had some plants in an unheated window sill all winter where temperatures have been well below -20 this year. They don't grow much when they get cold but as long as the roots don't freeze they are perfectly fine.

The only time I've been unable to save any of these plants is when they get old. They just kind of disintegrate after a year or two and I have no clue why this happens.

Hope you all have a great new year!

Still surprised how anyone has troubles growing salvia.

All spp grow like weeds and are used intensely in the landscaping industry because of there hardiness.

They are perennials so there normal life cycle is for all above ground parts to die off to preserve energy for the root stock and next year's growth.

This is also the reason the seem to work and lose vigor with old age.
If cut back and aloud to reshoot annually, you should have some beautiful plants for a long time to come.

Pic of mine it's doubled and some in growth since i got it but wouldn't say it looks healthy.
Didn't want to baby it but maybe it needs humidity tent.
Dry twisted leaves (has been fn hot here of late) Tips brown maybe the soil was to rich?

She most likely doesn't need a humidity dome, unless roots aren't yet developed. It seems as if the soil blend is the culprit. Invert the plant with your hand atop the root ball, stem between your fingers, removing the pot, so the rootball can be examined.

I believe she could use a different soil mix, with 50% perlite for drainage. This will help to assure that drainage and aeration is sufficient.

If she's staying wet for more than a few days, pay careful attention to moisture levels, allowing her to become semi-dry between waterings. Getting in tune with the weight/feel of the pot greatly helps to gauge when to apply water. :peace:

What direction on the compass does that window face? If it's south that could be a problem especially if it's hot there

The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it."
