Help with my mono tub
    #24905503 - 01/11/18 01:32 PM (7 years, 6 days ago)

This is my first mono tub.

I'm using about 1:2 rye grain spawn to coir/verm bulk. I've followed Frank's guides for pasteurising the bulk substrate, and prepping the tub - reference: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17246844 and https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17447797).

As per Frank's tek, I've got all holes taped shut at the moment.

It has been 10 days since spawning to bulk and in the last few days colonisation has slowed down. Here's a pic I took just before. The patch on the left and the middle have been the slowest and I haven't seen any growth there for a while (maybe I'm looking too much).

This was the first time I cracked the lid and only briefly to take the photo. As you can see, there is moisture beading up all over the substrate - not pooling, but it's pretty wet in there. The walls are also covered in moisture and the lid is also very wet. I'm concerned that maybe it's a little too wet or it needs more GE.

I'm looking for advice on how to proceed.

Just take it round the back...upload it next to the far ground and look in the cotton felt.should work.otherwise keep trying...you never know...last time it was on the third cycle. Took me ages to get the hang of it..did you try the tek that is on James page?

there should be small small beads of water pretty much everywhere.

I'd watch those patches though.

Cheers.

I reckon I might have just done quite bad job of mixing the spawn through evenly and those two patches have no grains near the surface.

How much longer would you let the tub sit like this before going to fruiting or changing the environment?

Honestly as far as I'm concerned as soon as you mix and level your substrate into a tub, you put poly fil in the holes and put it into fruiting conditions right away. It will colonize and fruit all the same, and quicker. and easier.

but if I know the track you're on, after it's fully colonized, you let it consolidate for like a week I think (keep same conditions as now)? then fruit it

I've realised that taping holes shut during colonisation is old tek. I'll try straight to fruiting on the next one.

Is loose on top and tight on the bottom still the way to go?
