All you need for light to get a decent pinset is a l.e.d like this one

Its produces a white light but says on the packaging that it also has blue spectrum....It runs on 3 triple A batteries (been running it for a week now 12on/12off) without replacing the batteries. There is also a adhesive strip that those of us using mono tubs could make use of by attaching it to the underside of the lid.
Long story short, a $1.25 L.E.D closet light is enough light for mushrooms.
I don't understand why you made this thread now RR, anyone that put some effort into reading this forum would have known that full colonization of the substrate and a drop in the co2 are the primary pinning triggers, not trying to take anything away from this thread, just perplexed.
Its awesome to see you old timers making collaborative efforts too, much respect.

He made the post because he was sick of answering the question? He felt the need to clarify for newbies, like myself. Didn't he say that in his original post.
And about your LEDs, do you use other lights or anything like that? or do you only use LED's to get pins to grow and then switch to something else as the fruit matures?

Really, you guys are going to question a master mycologist?
I can't believe you bumped a 5 year old thread to try and prove RR wrong.

Honestly, I just started using these L.E.D's to keep the mono's out of my space and anyone Else's prying eyes....
So far, so good. I just harvested a qp'r from the tub in that picture. I've left past grows in the dark before in a automated F.C while I went away for a week and came back to canopies on more then a few occasions.
A night light also provides enough light. As long as the substrate is getting proper air exchange and humidity it will produce without a problem.
I still say that colonizing jars colonize faster in the dark but it probably just seems that way since they're not continuously in my sight...
Pfffft! Didn't realize this thread was from five years ago....
