Fat AND thin fruits.
    #24900617 - 01/09/18 12:19 PM (7 years, 8 days ago)

Ok so these are 2 seperate problems. 2 different trays, same strain. GT. wbs coir. So one has extremly large pins and dark caps. The other tray is tall thin fruits and light colored. Can u tell me what the problem could be?

Tray 1.

Tray 2.

Same strain. Both trays completely different.

I had exactly the same thing happen. But just with one cake.
The bottom tray look like Ecuadors, that I have now.
And your top tray, one looks like an Ecuador, the others are unusual as you normally have more the right colour,  than the wrong colour. Yours are the opposite.
You need expert advice, but yeah, pretty cool.
Cubensis are cubensis, at the end of the day. You might have something strange there. Do they go blue when you break the stem. If so it's probably psilocybe. If not might still be a psilocybe, but I wouldn't eat it.

Oh its def a cube dude. Ive been eating this same strain for a year. I do g2g and start over from spores sometimes. But no contams, just some wierd thing happening in there. All the spawn from these came from the same master jar that i did g2g with.

And usually they look like classic gts. Something haopened with this one.

Sorry. I see what you mean now.
I had a cake that I swear was crazy powerful. Completely different to all my Ecuador.
I got some koh samui cooking on agar.
I know thin fruits are to hot, and fat fruits are colder grown.
Maybe that's why the colour changed. But black is an abort, right. And those are Grey. Wtf. Overweight, mixed race, mushrooms.

Theyre black but still growing and turn lighter as they grow. And theyre in the same spot in the same room. Same temp... wtf?!?!? Lol im so confused. And its like the whole tray is different so i cant really say genetics. Its from the same source. Idk man any tcs ever experienced this?

Varying genetics.

Where was your inoculate from?

Hey,

So thin vs thick will always doil down to the amount of gas exchange, more fae the fatter the fruit. The grey looking one, does not look healthy. Are these in the same fruiting chamber with lids ontop?

No separate chambers. And that grey color u see is the universal veil. It turns into just spots of white and the caps tyrn brown as they get bigger.

6 months of G2G? What does that mean?

It means, the spawn i used was from a ms syringe 6 months ago. But after many g2g transfers. Aka all my grows in 2017 were from the same original master jar. But ibe never seen such a difference in looks b4. They always look ABOUT the same. These look entirely different.

Im tbinking fae is the issue. The fat ones are in an unmodded mono with the lid cracked during the day. And i mist like 6 times a day so idk how its dry. The one with the fat ones is the second flush, could be why it looks dry. Got spores all over too cuz i did a double at work. The thinner ones are in cake pans with modded lids for air exchange. 1" hole on top with poly and 4 1/2" holes on the sides

So cron, what should i do? I already mist alot. But its winter months in new england so extremely dry air. Should i close the bin up? Idk how else to maintain moisture. Like, i literally mist the shot out of it like 6 times a day. And i dunked for 12 hrs about 4 days ago. But if its so dry, why are they so fat? I thought dry sub would cause small slow fruits. Not massive ones

Because varying genetics are the main factor in different fruits with multispore inoculations.  A casing layer is a good fix for retaining moisture content levels with cubensis when the climate is extremely dry.  Also, be sure to get your susbtrate moisture content correct when prepping the sub and guard it during spawn run.

Yea honestly those yellow spots have been there since i put into fruiting. I didnt level the substrate very well so all the raised areas got like that :frown:

But ok will do. Whats with the black heads? Are they aborts? Theyre still slightly growing but much slower than everything else i have going. The first flush off that thing was beautiful. But after the dunk this is what i got... i have patience, not rushing anything. I have other projects anyway but i was just hoping for another great flush outta that tray. We will see

Sorry that is what i mean. U know, words just become common practice even tho i know the real meaning. Yes theyre all gt variety. So ham u think those are gonna abort? Or just dark caps? They all started black with the exception of a few tan ones. But the ones that started black are getting bigger and turning lighter. But extremely slow growth! I guess if they dont grow any in another 2 days ill eat em

The pins that are black capped are aborts.  Looks like that tray is soaking and drying too hard, so those fruits are stressed.  A bit of a thicker substrate would remedy the moisture loss from the substrate in the arid climate.  Consider dunking your grains before spawning for added hydration, as well.

Im ignorant in that aspect, should the grain be brokrn up well while dunking or just in chunks?

And can anything be done? Top watering? Bottom watering? And yes the substrate was a dense substrate to begin with for some reason.

U think after i pick these i could put a layer of coir on top to help the surface conditions? The substrate is still heavy, not dry and spent like it usually is.

Update. So these were some of the supposed aborts. Turned out some were aborts and other rapidy started growing. Like this pic, they were small like the other fat pin in the back 2 days ago

The short fat pin is the one this post was originally about. Its def an abort. And thats not mold, its fuzzed up then bruised from drying
