Sort of expected with a flow cabinet rather than a flow hood. FP doesn't sell flow hoods they sell flow cabinets.

So what do you recommend? I was thinking of trying to find a higher sitting rack or using sonething to raise my current work space

Use something to reduce the size of your intake, or a prefilter wiith a high W.P.  Either of those will slow it down without requiring a speed controller.

I have a merv 13 prefilter.  I was thinking of doubling up prefilters. I could also put a binder ontop of tge filter to reduce intake.

I would try that and see if it helps. You said you have plexi walls do you have a roof too? Maybe if make the whole hood deeper you won’t get those side currents. Or maybe the filter you got has a hole or tear from moving it?

I've removed the plexyglass sides to see if they were causing a draft.

The hood was only moved 1 block. I moved it by itself when i moved.  I had a protector for the filter when i moved too.

I belevive it is more transitional flow. Transitional flow would still work in a clean environment but as we see it is mixing air.

Transitional flow doea not have a completely even air flow.

I've seen RR post about him using gis hood in his bedroom with carpet and his dog.

I, wouldn't call fungi perfecti cabinets laminar flow from what I'm seeing. Yes clean air.

Cabinets work and have worked the whole time. I just suggest a hood

Using two 1500 filters and making my 20 by 16 to a 4 by 16 i was able to get the lighter to asay on at an angle of 90.

I still have the under current

I messed with mine and called fungi and tripped balls on little currents and what not for a while. He helped me out a lot with shit that I was just doing wrong but then the fungi guy (who builds the flow hood) said. Dude, you're tripping balls. Test it with open agar plates in various positions. So, I tested it and was satisfied.

So, have you tested it with agar? I guess that was the point of my rambling.

Maybe a seal gave out when you were moving it, pull the trim off and shine a light around to see.

So what I am getting at yes, the air in the center of the hood is for the most part clean.

For me to get in to not mixed air I would need to be at least 3 inches above the bottom of my hood.

So yes the center is clean.

I am using a liquid example but all fluids flow the same way and gas is a fluid.

So the bottom of my hood is creating a draft upwards to mix in the bottom layer of air.

This is enough to get onto my work space. This is a plastic tackle box that moves my dishes 2.5 inches above the table.

I can see smoke being pulled into the work area.

So the table vibrates, the floor of my room vibrates due to the motor shaking everything. I can psychically feel my floor shaking.

No damage just inspected it

Hmm, you could get a thick rubber or foam gasket, like the kind they sell for putting camper shells on trucks, might eliminate the draft?

Like bodi says thats the downside of a flow cabinet vs a hood. I think fully enclosed is the way to go and thats why I designed mine that way, theres a reason why you don’t see ones like FP sells in professional labratories, obv the stainless steel and plastic are unreasonable for a home made, but design-wise there are some flaws. Easy/cheap to build/ship/store but not ideal to use. Maybe you can retrofit it into a better design with a little ingenuity.

In those diagrams I think the shaded area represents that 3” or so of turbulence

Its really pretty simple to add a hood to a cabinet if you need one, no need for it to be attached

He said he has a plexi one and it isnt helping, draft from the bottom of the cabinet is getting in anyways.

I would need to build something that made the work surface level to the lip of the hood.  I think the best solution is if i were to build something that screws into where my current brackets are securing my hepa.

Not sure how that would be designed as to would need to be removable.

If it is not attached wont i still get drafts?

The plexy glass was not flush to the airstream.  It was flush to the cabinet.  This did make some additional draw of air from different areas of the work space.

Hi vatman, you need a powerstat to control the blower. The air should move as slowly as required to decontaminate the work area. My vertical hood filters 200 CFM at a velocity of 50 FPM. It sounds like you already built a portable enclosure.

Man I dunno! I never use a hood on mine. It doesn't matter where I work so long as I'm in the sterile flow.

I use a baking rack to raise up short things like agar plates. Although I havent had any problems working with the plates directly on the glass tabletop

I think my current rack is also at fault. It is a solid clear tackle box so forces that dragged in clean air up to a higher level. I will try a wired rack too.

I would build a platform that brings the entire width of the work surface up to the level of the bottom of the filter and also use the hood if you have one or build one to suit.
