First SGFC

So heres what happened. I used verm/brf to create the substrate. It took about a month for these fours cakes to colonize, I still have four more than are more that are more than halfway through colonization but seem to have stopped progression? Anyway, as a noob, I created an UltraSonic Cool Mist terrarium using vinyl tubing, but had no luck with pinning. So I decided to create an SGFC. I used a 1/8 drill bit for the holes, didn't measure the holes 2" apart, just kind of eyeballed it even though on the sides it's clearly more than 2" apart. Theres about 3.5" of perlite in there, and I poured about a half gallon of water in there and made the perlite nice and damp. The cakes are sitting on aluminum foil.

Holes on the bottom? Nm I see them. Did you dunk the cakes? How long have they been in fruiting conditions?

I dunked the cakes before putting them in the ultrasonic terrarium and then I dunked them before putting them in this terrarium because they were sitting out for a couple days and felt real dry. Iv been attempting to fruit them for about three weeks now

I'm no cake expert but those cakes don't look happy at all, you probably over dried them.

Things look very dry in there pimpn. May try a redunk and take your fc to the sink and rehydrate your perlite. I would make some new cakes but if that's all you have then give them some love

I just took them out of a 36 hr soak, isn’t there concern for oversoaking the cakes? Hope I didn’t blow this flush! First grow probs lol

I'm new as well and was having difficulty telling what the moisture content of my cakes was. The easiest way I've found is by weight. Picks them up just a little. If they feel light, they probably need some water. I've started bottom watering some of my jars that have pins to help them hold moisture. I've also heard of some people injecting sterilized water into cakes but I cannot speak as to its effectiveness as I haven't done it.

I do not, but I do run a fan at night in my room so that may be an issue

They get indirect light through the window throughout the day, a few more hours at night when I’m home and have the lights on

I would take your perlite out and soak it in a strainer rather than pouring water in your SGFC. I would also trim that aluminum foil closer to the cakes.

Is it necessary to soak the perite more if its keeping humidity in the high 90s?

I prefer it to know there's moisture alll the way through the perlite. The bits that have fallen out of your FC look to be dry. it's more of a personal preference than a requirement I suppose.

dont mean to hijack your thread but my cakes have been in my SGFC for about 2 weeks now and only 1 cake has a shroom growing, one has an abort and the others nothing. my temps got in the low 60s a few times last week. should i redunk the cakes or just wait it out?
