Only thing I don't like about wheat straw is it has to be chopped to about 1-3" pieces for use as mushroom substrate material..... I usually have to cut mine with scissors, so I just chop up enough to give my hpoo/coir subs more texture and fluff.... Also the chopped straw throughout the sub gives the mycellium small "highways" it uses to faster and more efficiently colonize the sub.

Use a weed wacker and a storage tote in the backyard to shred a mediocre amount of wheat straw all at once.  If you live in an apartment do it the RR way by cutting a hole in the center of the lid and running the week wacker through the hole.

^ Ha I was just about to chime in with the RR tip!
I've heard of folks using a lawnmower (with mulcher) over the straw on the driveway

Small amounts I use shears too

The next level would be to get a woodchipper.
