Agar: Can bacteria ride on the mycelium?

Hello I have been growing pan cyan on agar plates. I was wondering if there are invisible types of bacteria that can ride the mycelium if I wait too long to make transfers. The reason I ask is because I have still had bacterial issues even after 7 transfers (when inoculating rye jars) but sometimes waited until the mycelium reached the edge of the dish. Should I perhaps try the hot pour method on my plates. Please let me know. thanks in advance.

Id double check your grain prep. You could be over saturating the grains or not PCing them properly.

Bacteria can be sneaky sometimes, Ive seen it grow as kind of a film across the plate that can make it kind of hard to spot. Ive also seen myc ride up and over blobs of bacteria, hiding them, from waiting too long to make a transfer.
But if you are having trouble with your plates after 7 transfers I would start a fresh culture. Make transfers early and really watch your plates. I don't like to let my plates grow out more than 2/3rds of the plate typically, I like to be able to see the edge of the culture.
It could also be possible your cultures are clean but your inoculations are flawed.

Thanks!

I actually found a photo of this from an old thread (this is Kizzle's photo). The bacteria is a film covering the uncolonized agar! He said it slipped by him several transfers
When bacteria gets by me it usually happens in the early plates. So I'm careful to swipe a zig zag pattern when I inoculate from spore and grab clean germination as soon as I can.
Pan myc can be tricky though, because it can grow blotchy and fluffy sometimes its really hard to tell if it has bacteria vs cube myc where its pretty straight forward
