Hi,
Anyone with personal experience with minitubs 6qt to 20qt? If so, after layering/mixing spawn and sub in tub do you cover tub (minus FAE vents) or just let it sit in nice incubation spot exposed to light? Have a good weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Cover tub with lid for spawn run. Exposure to light is ideal.

Check out the making shoeboxes thread, they are 6qt tubs, so it is kind of dedicated to what your asking about.

Is there another method to sterilize a rye grain jar without using a PC?

How does one steam sterilize for 8 hours? Seems a PC is a mandatory tool....

Either use a very large pot and heat source, or periodically refill a smaller pot with near boiling water

That's the issue. Not much room to store all the supplies needed. Esp, when I'm brewing beer too in a tiny condo....ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Do yourself a favor and get the 23Qt presto. This hobby is addicting fun and you will probably want to do more down the road. The 23QT will hold up to 10 QT jars. Should you buy a small one and then want to do more at once, well you will regret not getting the bigger one, lol.

I was thinking about buying 23qt presto. But when i saw (youtube video) how big it is, i changed my mind.
So since BuffGuts wrote he lives in tiny condo, i doubt he will have space for 23qt. 23qt is a big monster PC.
@BuffGuts: mason jar capacity for 16qt presto: 12 Half-Pints, 10 Pints, 7 Quarts. mason jar capacity for 23qt presto: 24 Half-Pints, 20 Pints, 7 Quarts. Jar capacity is copy/pasted from official presto website.

I 2nd the 23qt. I don't think you'll ever feel that it's inconveniently large. Do it
