Green mold farm
    #24888640 - 01/03/18 10:54 PM (6 years, 3 months ago)

My equipment

71% Iso with a spray bottle.
12 inch scapulae
Propane torch
24x18 hood from fungi perfecti

My hood is in my bedroom on a table. I also have some plants in my room... some cactus. I also have carpet.

I spray down the room with bleach water and lysol. Wipe down my work area with the same.

I have built a plexy glass frame around my work space recently to try to get mold down. I am seeing it a lot in my grain jars and petri dishes.

I wipe myself down with iso so much the entire house smells like it when I am done. I flame sterlize after doing each small task. Moving from one dish to another. Or before transferring to grain etc.

Right now I have about a 30% success rate of not having mold. I use filter disks. I maintain my grain at 15 PSI for 3 hours.

I turn off my airflow to the house before working. Wait about 30 mins to let let the hood warm up.

Get the plants out.  Soil harbors trichoderma.  For added security cover the carpet in plastic.

Are the sides and top added to the hood causing issues too?

I secured them with silicon. I did this to try to stop dirty air mixing with the clean.

I have no where to put my plants. I might as well make cover myself in a plastic box around the hood.

I live in a moldy house full of mold. Mold growing in the walls. Landlord has not kept up with the place in years. If there was a trash bag big enough to cover me and my hood I'd give that a shot.

That much failure sounds like a spawn problem.  I'd start with inoculant.  Did you test your hood with an open plate?

I have not tested with an open plate.

I have been using no pour agar with ziplock twist on lids. Plates that I don't use don't mold or go bilateral. 80% of my failure shows as mold right now.

my house was built in the 30s and i have exposed dirt wall basement covered in mold. no basement door either. its open:shrug: but carpeted.
anyway. sounds like my house. are you trying to grow a ton of edibles or do bags? cause the FH is causing more issues than preventing. especially if your using in a living space.

SAB:thumbup:

imo.

I have alot of plants in my room, a cat that lives in here , litter box feet away from growing area etc, Very "dirty" space. Iv had contams but i think it was all due to my spawn not being clean.

Go the extra mile to make the cleanest spawn possible. Iv had success even amongst the filth.

SAB is the way to go as mush boy said.

Flowhood is in high use room, indoor garden in the next room exhausts into the room with the hood.  It's carpeted, I keep it all relatively clean but am literally moving dirt in pots through the room several times a week, also hanging plants to dry feet away from flow hood.

Sounds fucked I know, but I don't regularly see contaminants.

Things that spring to mind:

As several said, spawn isn't clean possibly, culture contaminated possibly.  The unused uncontaminated plates jive with this hypothesis.

Laminar flow might not be properly achieved, if it's flowing too fast turbulence may occur, which could pull things into the work space.

We can only assume you know proper sterile procedure for using a flowhood, but if you don't, a flowhood is not a guaranteed win unless used properly, especially if your area is cocked over by mold.

I have about 40 cactus in my room. Cramped in my workspace. So a SAB might be the best option. Could be a lot of combination of things.
