What is perfect dryness?

I'm not being lazy, I have searched the whole site and I get "cracker dry" is what you're going for, but what does that mean? Saltine or tricuit? Like it snaps if you go to break it? My small guys are dry like that. The larger guys can bend a bit. Is the bend ok?
Also there is so much conflicting information as to dehydrators vs fans vs dessicants, and heat or no heat. I've come to the conclusion that heat doesn't matter(within reason) but the ones I've dried at 95 degrees "look" so much better. Nice and light.
Does it make a difference if they darken? The first couple I picked went black because I just left them out for a few hours thinking that would be fine.

Does anyone notice different trips depending on strains and dryness and batches?

NO BEND! They all need to be a nice crisp snap. If in doubt go longer. If you fail to fully dry them, they will mold in storage.

No bend, cracker dry. Ive never found a bendy cracker so i doubt it matters what brand of cracker people are referring to.

You can weigh em before and after to see how dry they are. Earlier today I finished drying 109g wet it ended up as 6.7g dry. Mushrooms are most often around 92.5% water IME.
109*0.06=6.54 So this batch was made up of 94% water.

Best way to dry without uncertainty is get a food dehydrator. They're only like 20 at walmart. Other than that you can look up desiccant teks. Like someone else said your not going to be able to get them cracker dry without a bit of help.

Dessicants may be used to keep cracker dry shrooms cracker dry during long ass storage. But not for drying shrooms.. Food dehydrators are the shit

You can definately buy large amounts of damp-rid for cheap and use them to dry mushrooms. Food dehydrators are definately preferable but definately possible to dry mushrooms with desiccant.
Quick search brings up countless teks/threads

I've got a food dehydrator. It was more of uncertainty if they were done. I can pinch the skin and it still bends. It seems very dry but it still moves without breaking. I've been at 95 degrees for 2 days.

Id turn your dehydrator up, 95 is nothing. I think mine runs betweeon 160-170. 12 hours usually gets them cracker dry. Heat doesn't destroy the active chemicals like people think but long term exposure to heat can definately negitively effect them. Thats why its better to dry them at a higher temp quicker rather than keep them at 95 for 2 days.

Your food dehydrator should be at like 160-180. Your not getting them fully dry because your not doing it correctly. It is easy to dry shrooms. They should break with a good snap. Hell I use to do it in 24 hours with just a light bulb and a screen.

Oh gotcha, that's what I'll do. Yeah there's a lot of conflicting info out there: heat, no heat. I feel like the heat breakdown makes no sense given you should make tea to consume them and that's roughly 200 degrees.

Its really oxygen that hurts psilocybin. Heat makes the oxidation more rapid but as long as its not a long term exposure then theres no difference.

So then fresh mushrooms are more potent than dried (probably only minutely). So 160-180 for a couple hours. I thought when psilocybin oxidizes it becomes psilocin no?

Actually data says that fresh are about twice as potent as dry fruits. Fresh contain about equal amount of psilocin as psilocybin, dry contain pretty much only psilocybin.
I´m not sure if psilocybin 'oxidizes' into psilocin but I think that psilocin oxidizes and degrades. I think tho that lemon, and other acids like our stomach and converts the psilocybin to psilocin. Maybe I totally slaughtered this information but this is what I can think of from the top of my head

Yes, I misspoke. That was my understanding... I was calling it oxidation.

From what I read, a phosphate breaks off the psilocybin to form psilocin. I could be wrong on that.
I have also never seen any data yet stating that fresh have equal amounts, not to mention saying they are twice as potent is hard, as they do weigh 10 times as much. I do find that 30g fresh is a bit stronger and seems to last longer than 3g dried.

A few days ago I dried 109g fresh down to 6.7g. I know from experience that 70g fresh is immensely more intense than 7g dry. I can´t imagine how 109g fresh would be and also my shrooms are about 93-94% h2o
