Indoor poppies?
    #2488653 - 04/01/04 12:21 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Would it be possible to grow some poppies indoors under a 100watt MH? I want to plant some seeds outdoors this season but I just don't know if the weather is good for them here in NE, peace.

the weather is fine man. poppys grow everywere in canada so anywhere were it is not freezing at night and at least 2 months of a season will do fine. starting indoors is nto a very good idea. most poppys dont do well if transplanted.

once u grow them u will understand. they are litterly weeds

100 watts in nowhere near enough in my opinion
Also poppies can easily handle being buried under snow all winter and come back to life in spring. The important thing is to get enough sun in summer

I tried starting some indoors with in the light of a south facing window. I did not have very good luck. They would just get spindly and fall over. Maybe you would have better luck with a proper HPS light. Also something that I have thought about is the absense of wind in the indoor enviroment. This kind of stimulation helps make stems thicker and stronger as you probably know, so I would say that a fan would most definitly be in order. I hope this helps. They like sandy soils from what I understand. I am a begginer at this too.

poppies are tolerable to almost any sort of weather condition. but they love sun a lot. they will grow indoors under lights but they just don't put out enough lumens to make the poppy smile. what better source of light than the sun? indoor can't even come close to the potency of outdoor. they don't really need a lot of care too, they grow very heardy and very fast. this is a good time to get em going though....in only a few monthes you'll have flowers. you should be cool, they'll grow anywhere pretty much

peace
