Who likes westerns? 1

Who likes western flicks? Every now and then I'll catch a classic western on TV. There's something about the vast prairie and the way they used to produce cinema- the dialogues in one scene that can last a half hour; the saloons, remote ranches, canyon passes, early firearms, marshal law, trying living conditions, and dynamics of a changing world with nothing but uncertainty and optimism all in the open range. It almost feels like I've been there. I've gotten this same nostalgia before when I played Red Dead Redemption years ago.
Especially interested if people outside the states are familiar with westerns?

I like a lot of them. I can't really get into the golden age of westerns too much. Spaghetti westerns are amazing and the Dollars Trilogy is one of the best set of movies ever made.
But even better than the Good the Bad and the Ugly is, I think, Unforgiven. It has been described as an "anti-western". I'm not sure about all that, but it is one of the best movies ever made.

I love westerns! My favorites would have to be The Wild Bunch, El Topo, and The Outlaw Josey Wales. I acquiesce in your reasons for liking westerns, and even have a reproduction ov an 1860 colt army, featured in numerous westerns, with an accompanying engraved buscadero rig as homage to the portrayed time period(and fun in shooting it!). I agree that Unforgiven is an excellent western as it's a more honest portrayal ov the unreliability ov human character. It's anti-hero, but certainly not anti-western to my perception. I do tend to prefer these atypical westerns, but also have fondness for more traditional westerns like Ride the High Country, the 'man with no name' trilogy, and Rio Bravo. Westerns are probably my second favorite genre behind mid 80s-mid 90s New Queer Cinema.

Man from Laramie and 3:10 to Yuma last classic westerns I saw. So many others I've yet to watch though.
Also like non-western classics like Guns of Navarone, Casblanca, and Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Watch Django if you never have. It's hilarious finding out what's in the coffin for the first time.
I also watched Death Rides A Horse the other day, that was a pretty sick one. You might recognize the song from Kill Bill:

Ha, I'm surprised to see this come up. I have seen it, but haven't seen either sequel though.

I saw Unforgiven recently in a theater, it was good. Once Upon a Time in the West is my personal favorite of the ones I've seen. Best final showdown ever.

I like old westerns and spaghetti westerns (Sergio Leone films). The Ox-Bow incident (1943) is pretty good. I also like Warlock (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), High Noon (1952), Shane (1953), The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Furies (1960) and many others. My absolute favourite is Duck, You Sucker (1971) by Sergio Leone.

If we’re talking westerns, no one should forget Ennio Morricone. He scored most of Sergio Leone’s best works, and his music had a strong role in making those movies what they are. Look into his discography if you’re interested, he’s scored for everyone from Leone to John Carpenter to Tarantino. The song below is like goosebumps every time.
Ennio Morricone- Ecstasy of Gold
Also on the subject, an often overlooked western is a film from the 90s called ‘Ravenous’. This movie is so underrated it’s ridiculous. Coolest story, great acting, perfect filmmaking, amazing score. Here’s one of my favorites from it.
Damian Albarn & Michael Nyman- The Cave
