so try fruit at spawning? i dont get it you say you optionally do it one way.. then say your only option is cloning??
dont limit yourself. fruit everything you have right now. no matter what. when i fail, i try the opposite next and compare results to the first 'failure'. if normal spawn colonizing runs gave you results you are not happy with, do the opposite. fruit them at spawning.

I prefer fruiting at spawning just keep up on surface conditions.

So when you’re fruiting at spawning you’re introducing direct lighting, and flipping your lids? Is that about it? I worry about the surface drying out prematurely. When all I can see is the coir top layer I can’t quite decipher whether it may need a mist or not. Do you ever deal with the mycelium getting matted on the surface?

the changing in the color of the coir tells me to mist. the lighter the brown the less hydrated it would seem. and you get an eye for it
thats what the mister bottle is for. the moisture is going to evaporate. dialing in takes that evaporated moisture and keeps it contained within the chamber so it recondenses or whatever back on the the subs surface. sounded hard and still does to me.
ive never been able to pull it off. ive found i could grow more mushrooms lids off then i could in the time it takes to learn dialing in.
i was having shitty yields and i just wasnt doing a good job at it. so i stopped doing it. and did something else. now im buried in mushrooms all fucking day.

Hes saying he used to try to dial them in so moisture would be contained. Now he just flips lids cuz he could never get the dialing in to work

The dialing in isn't all that hard in the conditions that I have here. Different homes have a bit of a different climate terrain, if you will, so what works great for one person may not work as well for another.
For myself, the unmodified tubs don't work out well. But they obviously work quite well for a lot of people.
Maybe have a look at this old tek and see if it helps you:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17332777/fpart/1/vc/1
Like I said, one thing might work better for a person than another. And we always learn from our adventures and misadventures both. The bad results teach the most solid lessons.
