Should i use more than one of these lights?
    #24882924 - 01/01/18 11:04 AM (7 years, 16 days ago)

Hi everyone, i currently have a shoebox colonizing and I was only able to find this set of 3 lights, do you guys think i should just use one or should i use all 3 of them?

I currently have only one on but its seems like the corners of the shoebox may be getting a tad bit less light than the middle.

(55 lumens, 3000k, .9 watts)

Thanks

That's what some of the grow kits you buy online come with. I've never used it though.

It should work fine but on a 12/12 cycle expect to go through a lot of batteries.

Yea thats what i was thinking, unfortunately theres no outlet in the room i'm growing in tho :frown:

As long as it can last at least the 12 hours without changing batteries im fine with that.

They are LED's so I'm guessing the battery life would be pretty good, probably a couple of days.

Really though, the more powerful the light the better. It doesn't specify what temperature the light it? Should be OK until you get a socket in there and can grow under better lights.

Keep us posted on progress...

It'll be better than nothing, but just barely. Run an extension cord to a lamp and get proper bulbs. Or use sunlight.

Yup should get a a couple of days out of the batteries. Why not use ambient light or you got to go stealth?

I have gooten good grows with quite weak lightning but i guess stronger is better up to some point.
Look out for heat development.
Beeing LEDs they should be much cooler than other lamps but be careful if placing it inside the growing chamber.
Just put a termometer inside so you can monitor temps.
I put a weak led strip on the inside of the lid and it worked good.

Yea i would just use sun light but like you said i have to be very stealth about this.

How close to the shoebox do you guys think i should put the light? i can get it within a few inches of it but i don't want to over heat it.

You're not going to overheat anything with that light. LED's run exceptionally cool, especially those battery powered ones.

Place it so you get full coverage of your substrate. Just leave it on the top of the shoebox (assuming you have a clear lid and the angle is wide enough to cover the substrate with light).

Closer the better though as it's vastly underpowered.

Personally I use a led string light that hangs over the top inside of the tub

I currently have one of these right above the center of my shoebox. Do you think it would be beneficial to use one/both of the other lights too?

That's fine, I'd try and elevate that tub though so it's closer to light

Alright sweet. I'll go elevate it right now. I want to get it as close as possible while still having it shine on the whole substrate right?

I tried placing it ontop of the tub and it didn't reach to all the corners.

Sweet, I just elevated it a couple inches. It seems like the light in the corners is maybe slightly dimmer but everything is definitely getting some light.

How does it look to you now?

I prefer 5000k or 6500k lights...closer to true daylight spectrum.
