House burgled

As per the title my house was broken in to a few weeks ago. I've let everything settle, and thought I would post on here so you can hear about my experience, and think what I should do, and how any of it applies to you.
Thieves smashed a window whilst we were on holiday, and had a jolly time in the house. They went through every room, and tipped everything out (apparently common - tip it out, see whats there, faster!). They found my tool chest and I guess assuming some expensive tools went through it.
In there they found £50 of coke, air pistol, big bag of dried mushrooms, mushroom spores - all gone. They missed my expensive tools which were on the shelf above (Makita and similar). Police came and inspected before we got back, the thieves had taken everything, but missed my 20 tabs of LSD, as had the police thank fuck. No active grow, and all for personal use - I've never sold anything, and never will - when others have had things from me, the max I will accept is a high-5 (the few £s is not worth the potential grief!)
I want to rebuild my collection and do some more growing, but intend to leave it a few weeks in case they come back, assuming I am some sort of drug kingpin.
I will also be thinking about hiding places for my things from now on. Any suggestions welcome (on what, and how to do things), and also reflections on what would happen if the same happened to you. Sympathy also welcome - as well as the gear which I mention here, we lost a lot of personal things - backup your laptops is all I can say (luckily we haven't got a total loss).

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Sometimes I wonder if this would ever happen to me.
Do you think you were targeted? Meaning, was this a random burglary or maybe they knew when you were on holiday? Maybe it was someone that knew you?
It's smart to lay low for a while. I would get a security system with cameras that I could check on with my phone at any time, motion activated, etc. Also I would figure out a really good place to keep all my valuable stuff. Maybe a floor safe or something like that.
Personally I would be so freaked out if this happened to me I might consider moving asap. Then again if this is a house you own that's probably not reasonable.

Sounds like it might have been somebody who knew that you had drugs.

Definitely not somebody I know. Basically I moved across the country a couple of years ago, and then moved twice since in this area. The only people who knew what I enjoyed as a hobby are friends who live a long way away, and are also settled down with families in good careers. I just don't know people in any dodgy circles these days.
I've also never been one to hold a lot of gear, so it was a small stash, they just got lucky (as did I, I suppose - the police searching the house and finding it would be a double kick in the nuts).
Have ordered various bits to make a couple of hidden stashes, so will see what happens there. I've also refined my tastes over time so really only want shrooms and LSD. Shrooms aren't easy to hide, but acid is.

The nice thing about cameras is that they see who's doing illegal things. The bad thing about cameras is they usually see *you* doing illegal things.
If I had any kind of drugs in the house, I would not have a camera or alarm system. Nothing in my house is worth my freedom, and in all honesty, I'd rather the cops didn't show up before me. Well, I'd probably prefer the cops not show up at all, because fuck paperwork and answering a bunch of questions, but that looks sketchy as all hell to the neighbors. If there isn't a security system, it lets me come home and clean house so that when the cops get there, they don't accidentally find something they shouldn't. Plus, if they catch the guy, it's not like your stuff is coming back...with civil asset forfeiture, your stolen goods will probably pay for beer and hookers for the station. Best case. Worst case, it's used to incriminate you and take your house as well (for a station house party).
I would also take up gardening. There is a lot to be said for a few mason jars and a few square feet of regularly tilled soil that you seem to do a lot of digging in.

I really doubt that your house was broken into at random. It's not strictly impossible but burglary takes enough effort where people don't really seem to do it unless they haves some reasonable assurance that there is something that they want which they can take without too much effort.
You have any contractors (builders, I guess you guys would call them) working on your place recently?

Ok random is probably too strong a word, but basically it is a nice house, and clearly has some expensive stuff in it. All the lights out, and clearly nobody home at the time. The police reckon (and I agree) it was opportunistic burglars as opposed to someone watching the house for a long time - if they had been watching they would have come at a time when we left windows and doors open (which does happen).
The CCTV point is a good one. I dread to think about how much awful driving and swearing is captured on my dashcam. If someone watched it back I wouldn't look good, even if the end result is someone crashing in to me!

Turn off the microphone on your dashcam.
In almost no scenario besides you shouting a license plate number is it going to be helpful in an accident.

Quote of the year. Everyones talking about truly illegal activities being captured and OP states "Tell me about it my dash cam has caught me going 5 over the limit and cursing!" Love it.
