Trich, please help.
    #24874339 - 12/28/17 06:06 PM (7 years, 20 days ago)

I've got cakes that are fruiting, and some just barely starting to fruit. All was going so awesome for my first grow, and then this showed up today. I'm super bummed. Can I keep the mushrooms that come on this cake. Will all my other cakes end up like this one. Do I need to toss everything and start over? I really hope not.

You have to zoom in, it looks like faint green mold.

Before you go on and dump the cake, take a Q-tip and lightly brush the green/bluish area.  If the Q-tip has any residue on it, than it's trich/bacteria.  If it comes off clean, it's just bruising and nothing to be worried about.

No problem,  bruising usually occurs when you maybe squeeze the cake a little too hard, or when it dries out a little.  You have a really nice pinset going, you should check out this link and start bottom watering.  Keeps your cakes hydrated and improves flush size  https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23709670

Thanks!! Is there any risk of getting the mushrooms that are already there too wet?

Usually there isn't as much bottom pinning going on, but the tek can still work for this cake even if you have to make your bottom watering trays a little bit more shallow to account for the mushrooms growing out the bottom.  On a side note, bottom watering should only be added after you have several pins going.

I don't see any trich.  Only a  little blue which would indicate over misting, or low RH.  Trimming that foil up a lot can help with that.

So it can bruise blue from both over watering and underwatering?
There's no way it's low rh, so it must be too much. I am going in there a million times a day.

I troll a lot for research (and not to get blasted being a noob) but I can see the issue. I kinda freaked too but you have to consider what's been stated and then some.

We all know about the "bruising" and colors we should look for.

We all handle our 'cakes' at some point- esp. after birthing and 2nd flushes, etc.

So...

I've found if in doubt, always check and see if you have similar bruising 180 degrees from the initial spot (exactly the other side in a similar close proximity). It might not be as much but I bet it's there.

Yeah- you grabbed it at those points at some time. That's basically it.

I'm farsighted, so it's hard to tell. I used my phone and zoomed in completely and still thought for sure it was green. Thanks for your help on all my posts bod.

Thank you for the tip. You are correct. Much fainter on the other side, but it's there.

Yeah- Same... As humans with opposable thumbs, we tend to grip objects more so on one side. Crazy but I've seen it on a dozen or so cakes. Esp. after 2nd flush (3rd if lucky) and also on more "exotic" species at times.

It's all good! Bet we are all game for a great New Year!

I hope so.

Off topic but I started a few pan cyans jars and they look right(only after looking up a bunch of pics because the myc looks so diff to cubes)

I've got 2 questions, any way you could point me in the direction of a proper technique to actually fruit these?

I really want to keep going less common... What strains are fun and not crazy diffucult? I think I've got sterile down, and I can keep my temps within 5-8 degrees. My fruiting chambers needs a little work (discipline). I'm sure I'll figure this out in the next week(it's got to be moisture content).

I got into mushy cultivation for tx resistant depression..  it seems to be working. Not sure if it's the mushrooms or the cultivation or both, but I'm so happy when I wake up to check on my mushrooms.

Yeah- I want to help answer this but I'm kinda new to the other strains.

My first cyans didn't go as well and only ended up with 2 fruiting cakes out of 9. Meh...

They had the same environment and temps (same as you described). the FC's are always a discipline issue for folks like us that always want to check them. It does give us what we seek in the process from start to finish as far as gratification goes. And this is a good thing!

I too want to go less 'common' but most strains are going to be more work from what I can research. Not by much- Perhaps technique?

The folks here are awesome and hopefully someone better as a Trusted Cultivator' will chime in. Otherwise I don't mind sharing what I know thus far. Pm me.

Check out the official pan thread or the pan growing teks. Thats a good place to start.

Asking what strains are easier means you need to read more because that question doesn't actually make sense.
You get a strain when two spores mate. You have hundreds to thousands of strains in a single grow if you start with spores.

Psilocybe cubensis is an easy species to grow. You can pick any variety (name on syringe) they all will have the same growing parameters. Dictated by the species(cubensis)

Thanks again bod. I totally get it. I guess I mean, which species tend to lend themselves best to errors. I made plenty of mistakes and my cubes are coming out. I want to keep the success going and maybe avoid trying liberty caps until I've got more success. I'm kind of asking... If you can do cubes, try: pc, if you pull off PC then try etc. I think growing has been just as much fun as eating.
