Hey there, I have a unique situation. Have you guys seen those stash cans that look like soda cans? Well, I had my mushrooms in 2 of those and they were cracker dry when I put them in there almost 2 months ago. There must have been some moisture in those cans because when I opened them up today there was some mold in the top of the cans. I don't see any visible mold on the mushrooms, only in the top of the cans. The shrooms that were in can #1 are still cracker dry, the shrooms in can #2 are slightly moist. Are any of these okay to eat?

I’m not a pro, so take my advice lightly. But in my opinion, I wouldn’t eat ANY mushroom that’s been near an unknown mold for extended period time. That’s my two cents. Sorry about the crappy misfortune.....

post a pic if you are that unsure but they are probably ok if they were dried properly.
just a tip. always make shroom tea. even in the off chance something funky is on the mushrooms, the boiling water will kill whatever.

Feeling pretty confident, even as a newbie, recommending that you throw out any mushrooms that were in a sealed container with growing mold in it. You may not be able to see it yet, but odds are that there are mold spores all over them that haven't germinated yet.
My guess is that there were some mushrooms that weren't fully cracker dry on the inside. I've been having a hard time getting my recent harvest fully cracker dry. I've fan dried for days, and used silica gel desiccant chambers and some of the fatter mushrooms definitely still have some moisture in them which becomes an issue if you put them in a sealed container like a plastic bag or metal stash can because the dry ones will absorb any moisture the not dry ones give off leaving you with weird rubbery fruits that are susceptible to mold and rot and other undesirables.

Here's a picture of the can they were in, the mold was only in that top area. If there is mold on the mushrooms and I eat them what are the side effects? If I make tea with them do I also eat the mushrooms afterwards? Thank You!
