I do too, but I feel like he never once misted the tubs in the grow log section. Or at least he never mentioned it. It’s also confusing me because my sub is all matted and doesn’t bead the water up. It just sits like a film over the sub... I suppose it can’t be all bad because there’s pins popping up every day now, but it’s not a really awesome pinset or anything.

thats gonna be slightly too wet. also, when learning from teks, it might take you a few tries to get it right.
expecting 100% right out the gate always sets me up for disappointment:shrug:

try making you sub slightly drier next time. slightly drier is always better than too wet imo
when i make my trays or totes to wet from misting? i leave the lids off for awhile until i get the desired conditions.

just keep an eye on it.

Uh oh. These guys are already opening up! I expected at least another 2 inches of growth from them.

So what did I do wrong. Did I initiate fruiting too early? Too wet or dry? or is this just the roll of the MS genetic wheel? or has it been so long since I saw a cube in person that I'm just expecting monsters unrealistically?

I agree. I don’t even expect 100% success. I mainly just try to analyze what I’m doing wrong that is causing my strife. I don’t know why the myc got matted and i don’t know why the water isn’t beading up. I have a hunch I was overmisting, but even last night I tried to air it out a bit and the tips of some of the mycelium structure bruised.

Shit yeild clone shoebox

Looks pretty though.

Bottom watered every other day because of fat pinset and they still turned out tiny.

Waiting on the mini mono w/ the same clone to finish up before deciding to toss it but its not looking good. Back to MS it is.

From MY EXPERIANCES I will say to much misting. Give it some open air fruiting for a few hours and ONLY mist is the top starts to lighten in color. This "color change" will be indicator of it drying.

To much water can have the opposite effect and keep them small.

Next time you think youll have shorties?  Time to play with open air fruiting :awesomenod: dry out that substrate and let them shrooms breathe.

I have been giving mine like 6+ hours prior to harvest, as well as sporadically when I could. I have been getting a LOT of 5-6 inch shrooms where they used to be in the 3-4 inch range. Also the whole idea of picking before the veil breaks is cutting some people short. I have noticed about 2 inches of growth, on mine, from the point the veil just starts to break to when I harvest. I harvest just at the start of spore production. I don't know why people would wait as long as they do then sacrifice so much yield to pick early.

This is pretty much my exact experience lately as well. I always used to harvest as soon as I saw spores but have noticed letting them go 6-12 hours in open air before harvest can add an inch or two.

I get some spores dropping, but very little. I don't let it go to sporesplosion.

Overwatering might be the case, but this was open air at least 2-3 hours a day after it started to knot and was left open overnight last night, I’ve got the same clone in another shoebox thats 1.5:2.5 and a minimono thats 3:4 both pinning up. Ill know in the next week or so if it was my bad or just genetics. It was cloned from a fat cluster of knots on a petri so I have no idea how big they are capable of getting, might just be a wack clone

One question! After mixing the sub with the jars in the shoebox, did u leave all the time the lids open or closed? When do you open or close them? And what about the contams of the room?

Contams of the room? Gee...

Not an issue dude!  You can fruit cubes with no lids.  Just keep your substrate moist and hydrated. Do whatever you want.  Its all in this thread.

During any form of colonization you need to keep the lids closed or your inviting in contams.. once you are 100% colonized you can open it up to open air fruit.

Mushboy I believe he's thinking that you can spawn grains to sub in open air conditions and just let it open air fruit from spawning to colonization which will just lead to trich.

Spawn colonized grains?  To coco?  And just have it sit out?

Sure you can.  Most people do that. It only contams if the spawn is dirty(generally).

if that were the case, like many like to claim(when its because they've never tried..or cant) then all my shit would contaminate.

not to single you out, dont take this personally... but this right here.. with cubes at least? is a HUGE misconception.
your shit(the royal you)contamintes because the spawn is dirty. its as simple as that. the air is not going to kill your grow.

really think about that concept. if the lid, which is not air tight or perfect fitting or sterile or anything,
is placed on the tote/tray ...lined up with pre fabricated ridges.. how in the world is that a deterrent to what
the perceived threat is? the perceived threat is an illusion. it is an illusion because the second you pop that
spawn jar open, the 'threat' is as up front and intense as its going to be. open a uncolonized jar open air and it molds.

open a colonized jar in open air... and its fine. if your spawn is clean and healthy, which may take time to perfect,
those threats or contams or whatever melt away. it becomes a non issue. most noobs would panic if they took lids off and left em off.
it would remind me of someone taking a gas mask off when all the world tells them the air around you is toxic.

its a wacky misconception that any, ANY person whos done any real growth as a cultivator, can shrug right the fuck off.
people spend a HUGE amount of wasted time and money on dumb shit. and childish approaches to get around a none existent threat.

some people have made a name for themselves conquering this imaginary foe...or people guise it as a vector. thats caveman shit:thumbdown:

Its just like having kids, the first few years ( cultivating till full colonisation of spawn) you gotta baby them and childproof the house but after a certain point (spawning to bulk) you gotta let them take care of them selves.

Stretched analogy but y'all get the point
