My First Oyster Grow: Blue and Golden

I inoculated 6 quarts of oats with approx 1.5mL of blue oyster LC each the morning of Christmas eve. I'm inoculating 6 more jars with golden oyster LC in the morning.
At full colonization I plan to spawn 3 quarts per 5 gallon bucket of pasteurized straw.
I can't find solid info on hole size or spacing for buckets, what do you guys do?

Those make me hungry. If I had the space I'd set up a gh and just do straw packed bags, they seem easier to deal with.
I might have to do oak sawdust, it really depends on how available straw is right now. How do you go about prepping your sawdust?

My blue oysters have a good bit of visible growth but most of it is super thin and whispy. This jar has the most visible growth that would show up on camera, there's a decent bit I can see that doesn't show up. Is this normal?
Golden oysters are showing growth too.

Thin and whispy does not usually go with the description of oyster mycelium. If oyster it should thicken up quickly. I do find oats to have lighter growth than say birdseed.
Did you figure out your buckets? Might want to read colorblind72 he has some nice buckets going.

I'll check it out. I know this is oyster myc because I used a sponsor syringe to inoculate and my sterile tek is on point.
I'll post pics of my plates, it's on MEA.

With and without backlight. Blue and Golden All of this was sponsor lc to agar so I'm 99.9% sure it was clean on arrival.

Hmmmmm that is really light for oyster. And that last gold looks bacterial. I have had a blue strain that was really light before but most are dense. What vendor did you get it from? (It’s ok to say in GMM as they aren’t for microscopy only). I’ve only had dealings with a couple but I can say one vendor’s blue oyster was similar and did not produce well.

That blue is nothing like I've seen. It should be heavier white mycelium very agressive. Just my 2 cents.
Recommend not filling your grain jars so full so you can shake.

Yeah I kinda overfilled them. I got my cultures from sporeworks. Great customer service and they sent the blue oyster as a replacement for the cube syringe since I don't "study" cubes anymore.
EDIT: what I think you're seeing as bacteria is actually water spots, these plates sat for awhile after pouring and the condensation dried.

Yeah I had a Blue LC from sporeworks that was lackluster. Though I don’t want to throw shade at them as several other species I’ve gotten from them, especially enoki and Lion’s Mane, were gangbusters. And you’re right their customer service is great. I do agree with Quad- Oyster mycelium should be much stronger than that. Probably not mislabeled as I’ve never heard of that happening with sporeworks before, I think it’s just a weak culture- like my 3 year old 012A Oyster that I miraculously resurrected from a dried up plate. It’s growth was distinctively less full and vigorous than it had been previously.

I suppose it didn't like the cold temps from shipping either. The blues are gaining momentum daily though, next time I use lc I'll make it myself and use more per quart than I did. I feel like ~1.5mL was a little skimpy.
I'll keep working with these strains, maybe find something it likes better.

I don’t think a different diet would increase density of the mycelium, though may increase speed. You will probably still get fruits, though don’t expect a big harvest. Tell you what, I don’t have any syringes at the moment, but I do have a bunch of homemade LC (using PastyWhyte’s EzLC Tek ) of my Blue Bratslavian Oyster. If you send me a syringe I’ll fill it with my LC and send it back. Shoot me a
By the by, what kind of Fruiting Chamber will you be using?

I'm going to rig up a plastic tent in a portion of my room, I'm going to cut 1" holes along the top and bottom (and the middle if it needs it). I'm going to get a humidifier and if the holes don't cut it for fae I'll buy a small can fan and run some flex ducting into it. Shit as small as a space as it is I could probably get away with a small desk fan lol.
It's going to be temporary as I plan to move somewhere with a second room I can use for cultivation at some point.

Check out My GreenHouse Build- Definitely get fans, especially one that ducts outside both for Fresh Air Exchange and sporeload especially in the case of oysters, and definitely build a Humidibucket. I haven’t consolidated that thread yet so it’s as I went along but you can see the issues I ran into and how I dealt with them.
