AFOAF sent me this picture, asking me if it was an abort or not... I couldn't tell, it looked sort of darker than it should be on the end of cap.

Yea it is, I asked him the same thing. He said, its where the top layer of dry verm he put on top fell inbetween the sides of the jar during incubation. They are very colonized.

That is because it was the TOP LAYER OF VERMICULITE THAT FELL DOWN ON THE CAKE, no big deal, just like dunk and partial roll.

Vermaculite is not nutritional and will not be colonized. Havent you ever seen people lay there cakes on the top vermaculite layer.
Whatever man.

I believe you frock. But those are some funny lookin' fruits! But then again, it is the funniest of fungus so you never know what to expect.....if the caps get any darker, i'd pluck 'em.

Hey Euphoric, werent you just asking a few days ago wether to leave the tape on the lids during steralization?
A quick search of your posts proves you dont know what your talking about. Im new around here to but you shouldnt always answer things with half ass information and argue with the guy that has the cake sitting in front of his very eyes.

Exactly, that cake is prolly 107% colonized, the outter skin was actually scratched, there was such a thick layer of mycellium over the cake. All cakes are not snow white and perfectly cylindrical in shape. It is a fungus that takes over whatever it can. If that verm was inhibitable it would be white. Ther fruit is very perticular looking. If it doesn't do anything productive over the weekend he said he is going to pluck her and see what she tastes like. Thanks for all the posts guys...

Here is an updated picture of that shroom that he thought was an abort. Looks pretty good so far to me. Lots of little pins on the cake now. Looks to be very promising.
