Need casing advise
    #24865671 - 12/24/17 10:20 AM (7 years, 24 days ago)

Well I can't go to town today (too many people/50mi from town) so I can't get any peetmoss or jiffy mix. I got a plethora of Verm, spent coffee grounds, horse poo(just thought id list it), and straw(again, just thought id list it). Can I make a casing for a mono tub with all that?

Do you really need to case it?  Is it a regular cube?  Out of those ingredients I think verm is your best bet if you absolutely have to case.  You got any coir laying around?

I second this. I've tried casing monos and personally I saw nothing good come from it, just more work. To each their own though.

They are cubes though my trays of same variety are struggling with moisture so I was contemplating casing them. I see 1/2 people talking about casing cubes and 1/2 saying not to. Granted this tub I did only has 2 FEA holes in it and its holding moisture a lot better than I expected, though the very top of the sub it having issues getting fully colonized. It is usually dry(er) than I would like. (I wave fresh air in it 3 times a day before anyone harasses me about CO2 issues)

There's no need to case cubes unless your climate is very arid.  With cubes as long as your susbtrate is properly hydrated upon preparation and you've taken somewhat of an effort to guard said moisture content during spawn run it will be fine.

I made it a little heavy on water and I was actually a little scared of it when I spawned the grain though the myc really liked it, it turned into a brick with in days. So should I just do a really heavy misting to keep surface moisture? I've read (I've learned a lot of info out there is weird, some say one thing and others say the opposite) that if surface conditions are not good it can ruin a grow. I'm just a little worried that my surface conditions might be too dry even with my misting and almost no FEA tub. I'll try misting it a little more frequently.
