Using mushrooms as fertilizer?
    #24865575 - 12/24/17 09:23 AM (7 years, 24 days ago)

I normally toss aborts and wonky mushrooms into the compost, but today it occurred to me that they should break down fairly quickly into a water soluble black goo which should be very nutrient rich. So instead I dropped them onto some of my potted plants to see what happens. I don't have any controls so it's not a real test, but just wondering if anyone has tried this or has info on it? Surprisingly google doesn't really come up with anything. All that comes up are using mushroom compost to replace the use of fertilizer, the fruit bodies are a lot more nutrient dense than the remaining substrate though.

Spent cakes in the garden mixed in soil do great.  I bet they could be brewed into an aerated compost tea too.
