Umbrella Filter?
    #24864688 - 12/23/17 08:12 PM (7 years, 25 days ago)

Recently I've purchased a whole bunch of jars and I plan to do a grain inoculation as my first project.
On hand, I have a small amount of tyvek, poly-fill and I plan to get some 3M micropore tape as well.

However, when I went through the trash today I found a used umbrella in the recycle bin. I'm wondering if I can cut a piece of the umbrella fabric off and use as a filter.

Don't use crap willy-nilly found in a dumpster.  Tyvek, polyfil, and Micropore tape are all proven alternatives to synthetic filter disks because they can withstand being pressure cooked.

I like the creative thinking but I'm also pretty sure that umbrella fabric is designed to prevent any water from flowing through it.

It will melt in the PC.  Also, there's no need to prevent water from flowing.  The point of filtering material on grain jars is to provide ample, filtered gas exchange for colonization.
