Will these containers work for "Pasty plates"....?
    #24864291 - 12/23/17 04:23 PM (7 years, 25 days ago)

Hello excellent Shroomery!!!  Merry Christmas to you All!!!

I am preparing to do some cloning work by using "Pastywhyte's easy agar tek" or a slightly modified version of it anyway..... I will be taking one of my first pins from a grow and cloning it to a basic agar.  My question is, I do not have "micro pore" tape at the moment but I do have polyfill and paper type medical tape, so this is what I am able to produce at the moment:

That is right after I used a 1/4 inch drill bit to drill out the lid and then tightly pulled polyfill through it.

Here is another pic with the paper medical tape criss crossed over the polyfilled GE port, also pictured is the tape, lol:

My question is, will these work for a version of a "Pasty plate"? (Thanks again Pastywhyte!)

Thanks a ton guys!!!.  I very much appreciate all the time and work that is put into this awesome friggin' resource that is, THE SHROOMERY!!! :heart::rockon:

Yes, it is....but I was more concerned with my filter and whether or not I should use the paper medical tape to seal it?  Even if it was airtight wouldn't there be enough air within the container for the myc to take off?  Should I use or not use the medical tape over the polyfill GE ports?

      Thanks Ziran! :mushroom2:

I think the holes in the lid is for the PC cycle and not so much for GE. I don´t think you will have GE problems with pasty plates or petris for that matter.

Ok.....so should I not bother with the polyfill then and just tape over the 1/4 inch hole with the paper medical tape?  Or stick with the polyfill and then tape over it??  I'm just looking for ideas and to make sure I do things successfully!

I plan on putting each agar container inside of it's own gallon freezer zipper bag after inoculation...... Would it then be a good idea to store all the bags (I plan on doing a dozen) in a sealed trash bag to help guard against contams?  I am not going to be able to keep them in any sort of clean room or grow room so I have to create some kind of partially clean container for my dishes because I will be storing them in an ordinary household area.... Any ideas? They need to be kept level and right side up after inoculation I'm sure right?

Sorry if these questions seem stupidly nube-ish!!!

          Thanks again!

I think the hole in the pasty plate lids also helps with the condensation inside the pp5s. I just place my petris inside a freeze bag when I put them away, I guess you can put your pasty plates inside bags as well to keep the dust and shit off from them. I don´t think they would suffocate or anything like that inside a bag, as I said GE is not an issue with these.

Thanks for your replies Mateah!  I think I will go ahead and use the polyfill and then seriously tape over it with the paper medical tape.... Hopefully all goes well!

I will just say this, I ordered the wrong filter the other day so I had to make filters somehow so I stuffed 6mm holes very tightly with polyfil and then 4 layers of micropore tape, two on top and two on bottom almost identical to how you did it, and all the filters came out wet, totally soaked, even tho I had foil on during PC. This happened two cycles in a row now, totally soaked filters. But when I did straight polyfil stuffed holes and foil then the filters came out dry every time, I don´t know what´s up with this, and I also see others protect the filter with an additional layer of paper tissue on top to absorb excess moisture. Wonder if your filters will come out wet as well...

I have only drilled one lid.... I plan on pc'ing tomorrow so I have time to make improvements....

So we're thinking if I drill my holes, then just tightly fill them with polyfill and then cover with foil and go?  Wonder if I added the tape after inoculation, if it would help the cause any?

So you found that no tape was better if using polyfill?

Yeah, next time I´m gonna PC both with tape and straight poly to see if it gets wet. Cant know for sure until I test
