bottom casing with perlit!!! (Help)
    #2486112 - 03/31/04 03:29 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

In a previous post I spoke about a cake I was going to make which was going to be (8cm tall substrate, 3.50cm casing, and its overall length is about ~ 1m by 50cm)

As you can see this monster of a cake is not going to move, im going to use the aquarium as my container instead of some plastic/tin tray.

So I was thinking of double casing it. The thing about D-casing is the probability of contamination. (In my previous experience all D-cased cakes got contaminated).

Anyhow to get to the point, is perlite ok for the bottom casing layer? Has anyone ever used it for this purpose???

Thanks

I have used perlite under a casing, I found water pooled down there and became stagnant. So my advice is not to. If you want a res, use verm or rockwoll in the base. Or just a thin layer of your casing mix.
