Air Pumps, Tubing, Stones and Valves?
    #2484802 - 03/30/04 08:44 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I am about to purchase an air pump in order to provide air exchange & humidity for a casing in a fruiting chamber. I know i need to buy tubing with the pump, but do i need to buy stones and/or valves?

Thanks

Well it just depends on how elaborate you want the system...the basic requirements would be a pump to push the air, and a tube to get it into the terrarium.

You can keep casing at much lower rh than cakes...say 70-80 percent.

What exactly do you mean by 'elaborate'? do mean whether or not i want to put the tubes actually in the casing versus just in the terrarium? And if that is the distinction, how much of a difference does that make?

thanks for all the help simplemachine

by elaborate I mean any crazy idea you can come up with!

I wouldn't run tubes into the casing, rather, run the tubes into a layer of moist perlite, and put the casing containers on top of that.

I have 2 pumps running into 4 aquariums. each pump has 2 outputs so i have one line going to each aquarium. Once the tube goes into the aquarium and under the pearlite, i split it off into two tubes and put one on each end.

At first i had bubble stones, but they broke when i cleaned the aquarium out. I havent replaced them and performance dosent seem affected... If i wanted more even air distribuation (which i do) i would get bubble wands. There just expensive and i havent gotten them yet...

2 bubblewands ($7) theyre 16 inches i believe
Rubbermaid ($3.50)
Perlite ($3)

thats it.

You want the wands because you can poke holes in them to make more holes if you like.
