Better be all, I took a risk opening this thread.

I have refused to watch even a single piece of promotional material.  :grrr:

One person says it a shit movie and another says its great.

That means its OK, probably.

Kylo was a pussy in the last one too.  He looks too nerdy to be a Darth Vader descendant.  I know he used to be a Marine IRL but still.

I still wanna see it.  Might go to the drive in theatre and kick back.

I watched the new STAR WARS movie for free at an advanced private screening we were invited to with my lady last night.
It was just an alright movie.  More of the same tired storyline drawn out while the producers and directors give the general audience exactly what they want and expect.

Pretty much this. It felt very formulaic and relied heavily on humor. There's a handful of super goofy moments

I can understand how people would think this

Every star wars since the return of the jedi is pretty much just a formulaic remake of a new hope and the empire strikes back

Its hard to avoid. One i dont feel is that it was a terrible movie all together. I dont think it was a 2 and 1/2 hour movie that could have been an hour and a half movie. It had its really good moments. It wasnt terrible.

I thought revenge of the sith was horrible just in general but had some really good moments. This was not THAT bad. Instead of han solo it had luke. It was not so predictable that you could pretty much guess the whole thing and by the end you were like "oh i didnt see that coming. Oh yeah i did because sarcasm."

Im telling you it was al-right. Maybe better then alright. Maybe it didnt escape being formulaic but which star wars film does? Its fucking star wars. Star wars is basically composed of 5 parts

1) special effects. Sci fi hardcore
2) character development based heavily on the same 6 or 7 people and either their predecessors or disciples. No star wars film is going to have a pulp fiction type storyline with so many character stories amd points of view converging that you have to rewatch it 30 times to figure out who is doing what and whats going on. Right? Right
3) heavy emphasis on the force and what it is
4) heavy emphasis on the dark side and its contrast to all these other things
5) an opposing group fighting a bullying group basically in an attempt to preserve freedom and democracy against those who want galactic control in the form of tyranny

Ok so was return of the jedi original? Cmon, they brought the death star back in an attempt to create an even more intense space battle then in a new hope. They are basically-formulaic-movies

That being side this movie wasnt terrible. It was almost kind of scary. I never knew what to expect next. From that point of view you could say this was the best star wars movie ever made. If you expected it not to be formulaic and "the sacrifice of the good" vs "the sacrifice of the bad" in a "highly emphasised sci fi setting" then dont go watch it

If you think its not worth $10 however... Actually.... Id say its worth $10. Why not? Its definitely a good movie. I had a good time for two and a half hours. What more do you want? That beats being william wallace in the 11th century with no movie theater to go to.

Can you imagine?

If you can imagine a movie about william wallace being able to use the force however, no i guess this movie isnt that great. Thatd be some original shit about how he freed the scotts from england by learning to use the force.

That is one thing star wars never really does. It doesnt get deep into culture or history other then the top ruling order or most elite rebel factions. Its not a "your ordinary guy in an otherwise elite jedi society" type of movie. You'll never see a star wars with jerry sienfeld just getting by in every day super sci fi galaxy far away type thing. Its not like kramer busts in the door and is like "Jerry i did it. I used the force! I mind tricked this bitch. I got this date!"

No its over the top jedi theory super sci fi formula type thing. Its star wars, its incredibly formulaic and honestly any of the movies without han solo lack enough humor to break the tension at all to seem even semi realistic. Like i said though to the question "was it a bad movie?" No it was pretty entertaining. It was a god damn good entertaining movie. Check it out for yourself dont rely on other peoples opinions.

The point to meditating is to feel the same when you are meditation as when you aren't. To be balanced inside and out. Difficult to do when being aware of breath and sensation. However, not impossible. Feeling ok about yourself at all times seems to be a great difficult skill to master. The concept so simple a snail could understand it. To practice it some of the greatest Albert Einstein type minds couldn't master it.

It's like the trick to human problems is to be even more human. Not less human but as human as possible, only understanding human nature.

Understanding subtleties is hard. What is subtle? Subtle is powerful. Atoms are subtle. Atoms make up everything we are. Understanding subtleties is one of the hardest parts of life.

Critic score is 93% but audience opinion is split down the middle. Interesting.

Guess I can expect an average movie. I'm still hyped though because I haven't watched any trailer whatsoever.

The whole first trilogy was pretty solid, I liked the prequels in some ways but they lacked the originality and "soul" of the originals.

I watched the first new star wars and thought it was pretty much garbage, fancy CGI riddled polished crap. Couldn't bring myself to watch more.

Visually it was good, but that was about it. Everything else just seemed like watered down rehashed plot...

Whitest Kids U' Know - Star Wars VII

I think WKUK predicted it basically.

Everyone says the phantom menace was shit but I thought it was the best one.  Episode 7 sucked ass, the protagonist magically learned the force with no training or practice and defeated the Sith Lord in her first fight.  And a giant death star?  Common.  ". It's just like the last Death Star, boring as fuck but bigger".  Bigger in space which is infinite and has not proportion or relativity so who gives a fuck.  I can see how that would appeal to kids these days.  I haven't even been interested in the new movie because of that but I hope to god I'm wrong.

Watch the WKUK sketch I posted  it came out before the new movies but they got a lot right, like there being another death star :tongue2:
