Hey everyone, are you guys getting excited for the new season of Stranger Things on Friday? If you are, consider checking out the Stranger Things 2 OST that got released yesterday, by Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein (of S U R V I V E). I finally got a chance to listen to it, and it’s great! Very evocative and atmospheric. It opens with some very light, tender, sentimental bits, and then about 20 minutes in, it takes a shift into more dark, ominous territory before becoming fully horror material. Tons of great synth, polysix bass, theremin, even a touch of guitar. There’s a couple moments of reprisal, such as when they utilize elements of the song ‘Kids’ from the first score. The first score ran in the order that the songs appeared in the show, and I believe this one does too, so it should give you an idea of the general framework of Stranger Things 2. It’s a beautiful score, I think this new season will be great.

The other night I caught this live act that I’d never heard of before. Dude called Street Fever, from Boise. It was a really dark, menacing, goth/cyberpunk/industrial set that went perfectly with a Halloween vibe. This musician was really intense, and seemed to have a lot of passion for his music. It was pretty serious stuff, but somehow went over well as party music. Very cool show.

Porter Robinson is one of those names that I have heard all over for years, but never checked out any of his songs. That song & video were both pretty cool, thanks for posting!

Any one ever listen to S U R V I V E? It’s the two guys who composed the Stranger Things score, plus two other fellows. Really exceptional music. Listening to S U R V I V E reminds me of staring at the moon; it’s hypnotic, ethereal, and has a strange beauty. Great stuff for synthesizer fans who want something a bit serious.

@Burke that track was dope^ Super relaxing yet at the same time so much was going on, it made my brain wonder around fantasizing about things and recalling old memories. I love tracks that can make you do that. Just melting into the music and letting it dictate your thoughts and emotions

I think they call it “hard vapor”, but it does sound real trappy.

I am glad you enjoyed that. It is a good one! It has an early 90's general sound while still being new and cutting edge. I really like that album.
As Burke said, that album is hard vapor, but there are obviously some songs that are other genres or heavily influenced by other genres. It is a masterfully executed plunderphonics album and really fun to listen to. The layering really brings you into it.

Right on. I haven't heard anything quite like that set in the electronic music genre before. I won't lie, that's not something I can listen to on a daily bases. But it was a refreshing shock to my sound palette no doubt.
Where do you guys follow all these "new" music genres from? I've heard vapor wave before but these sub genres of obscure genres.... what's a good resource for me to to start exploring these weird crevices of electronic music?
