I was hoping for Gymnopilus Luteofoius
Luteous.  Seems to be more similar in appearance than aeruginosus

I haven't looked too much into the Gymnopilus species yet.  Just happen to walk by them looking for deer tracks.

be very, very careful of orange mushrooms growing out of fallen logs. A lot of them are deadly galerinas. They'll grow right next to edible mushrooms.

That is true, though this is definitely a Gymnopilus in the G. sapineus group.

I'm very aware of this.  Im not new to hunting. Knew it was a type of Gymnopilus,  doesn't look like any galerina I've seen in Georgia. Appreciate your concern.

It looks like conifer wood to me, pine to be exact. The bark even looks like pine. The wood itself has that piney, lighter knot look to it along with the growth patterns. I could be wrong though, I'm using a phone to see the pictures.
