Aha, you can make brf LC! I'm down for some nasty thick LC.

Second i dont see my self as very meticulous, just curious. If I was making this LC to inoculate to get clean spawn I would have cleaned the jars first before use, and I wouldnt have used 3g of brown sugar. No need to get hung up on my "half asses attempts" im just bumping your thread to report back that i got something in my jars and that im glad it worked, when i test it on a dish ill report back again and tell you what it was. peace
I like how you meticulously broke down why you are not meticulous

Josex am I mistaken or did you say somewhere that someone had success without doing the squirt, and solely the poke for the transfer?

Yeah that oat jar looks kinda off to me too, could look happier.
Yes Germ, it was Mush' idea, I even updated the op, take a look. What I do now is poke an uncolonized part of the agar to cool the needle and then the culture, 2 pokes in total. I have to try poking the culture directly without cooling the needle, it's just the time frame to see growth makes me think twice about going the direct route, could harm the myc, but def gonna give it a try when I can.

Hell yeah, gonna give that a shot when my plates grow out. Just made all my transfers yesterday and trashed my old plates
I really need to get a lil myco fridge

Yeah I've gotten weird growth from streaked plates too using the poke and bacteria as well.
This is a LGT culture, 2 transfers in by poking and a third using the scalpel. It's a beauty already. It would have taken me lots of transfers with the scalpel to get a culture like this. Never mind the rings, it's cold right now so I turn on a space heater in the room for some hours once a day.
Although I think is a better practice to take a wedge from the streaked plate with the scalpel and then do some pokes.

Cool man, let's see some LME action. I know you can take badass pics with that camera and I for one would love to see how those LC's are progressing.

Having some trouble find a bottle like yours that's all #5 pp.
Most of the lids seem to be #2 hdpe. While Google says it can withstand 120°c for a short time. I don't think id feel confident pcing hdpe for 15 mins.

If you made your LC with 0.2% LME and I made mine with 3% brown sugar and your only looks a tiny nyans clearer than mine. With the % LME you guys are using one would think your LC would come out looking like water.// wonder which color LME powder is, it can't be darker than brown sugar..

The lighter the malt extract the lighter the color. Some malt extract can be dark like brown sugar but what we use is very light in color.

Extra light aka pilsen extract.
Light extract is usually a blend of pilsen and 2-row or straight 2-row
2-row being the name for the base grain malt which is confusing because theres 2 and 6 row varieties of barley. It would be like naming a variety of cubensis cubensis.

If you ever see a number with a L or °L after it in the description of malt extract the smaller the number the lighter the color.
2-4°L is what most of us buy. Our broth is even lighter because we only use it at ~2% by weight

I used 15 times the mass in my LC with BROWN sugar that Mushboy did with LIGHT malt extract, and his LC was slightly clearer than mine. If I used 15 times less brown sugar and did 0.2% instead of 3% it would look like water I'm pretty sure about that. I'm not looking for trouble guys I just don't understand this. Does LME dissolve 100% like brown sugar does? Or why does it look so dark in 0.2% solution?
