Authority and Inequality
    #2483546 - 03/30/04 02:27 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

"I should like to see, and this will be the last and most ardent of my desires, I should like to see the last king strangled with the guts of the last priest."--J. Messilier

Are people naturally egalitarian or naturally prone to inequality? What are your feelings on authority figures? Are they necessary? Do they do more harm than good? Can we revert back from a state society to a more egalitarian one? And if so, should we?

I believe that originally authority figures were not necessary, but by rearing their ugly heads, they had an effect on society that basically created their own necessity.

can humans successfully exist without authority figures? I believe so. Would humans continue to exist successfully if authority were abolished? Not after a lifetime of conditioning and several generations of eugenic engineering. These days people need the approval of an authority figure to go to the fucking bathroom. They are doomed.

we are totally dependant on them

they make the mass amounts of food. they do the killing for us.  I don't know how to farm well, actually i have no experience in it at all. we have a system now, that depends on electricity, water, fuel and money.  notice how all of those mesh with each other as well.  in order to "keep order" poeple have the idea of a boss.  someone to TELL them what to do.  we learn from a very young age to do as we are told; as Dr J put it, conditioning.

At first glance, I saw an authoritative figure laughable. Thinking about it more, when did we not have a leader of some kind??  so now we have to make a difference between how much is too much.

there are so many of us now, and the mindset that the mass population has makes it so that we really do "need" it.  though we really don't, too many have made the agreement in their minds that it's a necessity.  it's like now most of us couldn't handle no control.  it's like many are in denial, things are really out of control.

as far as my opinion really goes...the way things are set up is a shame really.  I feel we are in a self created delusion perpetuated by ideas that have been handed down for generations.

things are really out of control.  we have an idea in our head about worth.  now we all have that, but what we did was put a number on it. yes money but not only this, think about who is in charge of distributing money?  you get one guess

now ask the question...who or what determines how much is printed each year. What you will find is that no one has a definate answer. "It's complicated" "you'd have to take a class"  :wtf:  if you do please do share!!! I'm serious, because this one question alone shows how dumb we all are.

we are like sheep, not thinking to ask where why or how.  furthermore, we have the idea that questioning society is almost taboo, or at the very least people will think you're insane .  if I am insane then let me be insane for asking why something is the way it is and why is it that few people really know.  why would you accept such a system.

we are lazy

as bill hicks pointed out....here's gladiators america.  here's 56 fuckin channels of them.  go home and gorge yourselves.  goodnight america...goodnight.

and so with all of this, our authoritative figures have no authority at all in my book.  course my book doesn't count, even for myself

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

As long as people are irresponsible and distrustful of others, there will be a need for authority figures. If you're responsible and trustworthy, you'll notice that authority figures have no meaning in your life (except when they invade into it).

I think we are prone to inequality. I think it is genetic. Almost all social primates have an hierarchy with dominant individuals. In fact, it may well be all primate societies, I can't think of any that aren't

Nope.  The Maya and Aztecs had hierarchy too.

i think doctorJ was on about creating their own nessesity.
also if they did somehow magically disapear. we would learn.
peeople would die, but we would learn, and it would be ok.

Silversoul, this is a very rich topic. There are so many tangential components...'

Honestly, though, the painkillers I'm on are inhibiting my ability to articulate myself. So I'll have to come up with a response later.
