Pails in comparison to the water waisted in a shower or bath but harvesting always sucks. The set-up makes it so easy its worth it to me. I have a utility sink so its pretty easy. I like this too. Floating is hard with holes in a tub unless you plug them

shower? you shower? I thought we had to be hippies to post on here.

wasted water isn't what I was thinking about. I was thinking about how long it would take to fill up 10 tubs from the faucet. i guess you could fill up one while you harvest the other. but ya i have a bad back so i like being able to move it around a lot and reposition myself from any side is nice.

I did this with a couple of shoeboxes last night, except I didn't need to use a lid. Just kinda popped it out a bit and then reached my hand under and kept sliding my hand down as I tipped it out more. Harvesting was a breeze

Nice man. Gonna try this for sure. how often have you broke your sub doing this?

it will only break apart if there are contaminates present that weaken the culture. otherwise its pretty darn sturdy.

Do you consolidate your tubs before fruiting? I case and fruit upon spawning and feel like my subs might be too weak for this on the first flush. Also if I don't use a liner, my subs often stick to the tub, making it split easier. Not trying to be pedantic, just don't want people thinking their sub is trash if it doesn't lift out super easy.

Really awesome post, by the way. I'm definitely going to try this ASAP. I've only removed subs a few times, post-harvest. My chosen support structure was always the larger flat-rate USPS boxes. You can trim them easy for smaller totes, but they're perfect for larger tubs as is. They provide a lot of support, but are super flexible since it's cardboard. It might be easier to finagle in there than a shoebox lid. Plus they're free.

No I just spawn to fruiting conditions. The liner helps keep the sub from getting ripped up when you slide the lift thingy underneath it. If you can do this without a liner, more power to ya. I like using them just because it makes the whole process of mixing, removing, and trashing the sub a little bit more manageable.

I use a black trash bag for a liner as well....then when I need to harvest I just grab ahold of opposite corners and lift it out by the corners of the bag.

No floating or tilting required, lifts right up and out! Lol

if you use the $1/10 value brand bags like most of us, they rip. leaf and lawn bags, while more costly, are more suitable for lifting by the liner. lol

Hey man!
When you take out the sub and start cutting the mushrooms, do you put the sub back into the container for it to continuously grow? If so at what point do you say F*** it and throw out the substrate completely?
