Anyone here make bows? As in bow and arrow? I'm starting to research it. I have a few books on the list to buy. I have unlimited ash, oaks, cedar elms for sure as well any every other type of tree in my area. My friends have some Osage orange trees they said I can have. I have lots of tools and a shop buy know I'll be buying a draw knife and a few other wood working tools.

Made a VERY primitive bow, and a couple arrows on a bushcraft trip...... Waaaay too much time in it for me. Not to discourage you, you should definitely give it a shot. I just don't think I'll do another one

I have a friend that makes bows. Takes a lot of work but after a few simple bows he got pretty good at it. I know he liked the Osage orange the best so you are lucky to have a free supply. He also backed the bows with sinew that I would collect out of deer legs for him.

It's a lot of work. I have made one functional bow. I learned a lot, but the hours you will put in--if sold to a capitalist--would make you enough money to buy several bows. It takes patience, as the wood needs to be stored in a controlled environment for a long period of time before you can start working with it. You will also need some unusual ingredients like rabbit glue and cow sinew and a really really really big pot, so be prepared to spend some time scouring your local Chinese or Vietnamese market.
