Clitocybe flaccida effective in treating cystic fibrosis and potentially other autoimmune diseases
    #24814598 - 11/29/17 03:57 PM (10 months, 18 days ago)

I recently heard an interview on the radio of one of the french scientists who recently conducted a research on mushrooms which could be effective in treating autoimmune diseases like mucoviscidosis a.k.a cystic fibrosis.

Their research on 164 different extracts of mushrooms and algae led them to Paralepista flaccida var.inversa (also called Clitocybe flaccida which I think we can all agree is a superior fucking name lol).
It is an edible mushroom, although not tasty. Its extract reverted the DNA mutations and restore production of the needed proteins on live cells from patients suffering from cystic fibrosis.
The way this mushroom works could lead to a cure not only for cystic fibrosis but most of the other diseases linked to DNA mutations, including some forms of cancer.

Here is an article in french (I wasn't able to find anything in english yet): http://sante.lefigaro.fr/article/un-champignon-prometteur-contre-des-maladies-genetiques

And the published scientific paper: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0187930

This is right up my alley, thanks for sharing this! I'm always looking for possible autoimmune modulators and new medicinals. I would love to get a culture of this if anyone happens to have access to one. I'll be sure to share and propogate it, as well as do some personal tests of course.

Paralepista flaccida is quite common in the bay area, here is a photo I took of them last year:

From http://mushroomobserver.org/265686

They are easy to recognize because they have the odor of black pepper, and no other mushrooms smell like that.

I may have missed it in the paper but how was that specific mushroom species chosen for their H7 extract? Do you know where we can hear the interview? Pretty cool stuff.

Except that CF is not an autoimmune disease... It's a genetic disease caused by a mutation in Chloride canal... I doubt a mushroom could "cure" it.

you should check out the book, Healing with Medicinal Mushrooms by Dr. Walter Ardigo. It has tons of information on auto immune diseases and medicinal mushrooms.
