Pleurotus ferulae (white Elf)
    #2472225 - 03/25/04 05:13 AM (20 years, 8 days ago)

Hi,
today I went to a very big supermarket and they had a large collection of different exotic shrooms.
I bought Shimeji, Pom Pom (Hericium erinacaeus) and a shroom called "white elf".
It seems to be a variety of pleurotus eryngii but I'm not sure, because it has its own name: ferulae.
It is big, white and massiv (oyster look alike). This one might be easy to grow, what do you think?
Straw or beech-chips (with or without sawdust)?

Pleurotus ferulae seems to be a variation of Pleurotus eryngii. I would try sawdust / pellets fuel as a substrate. I have found very different pictures about that species on the net. Some show white and the others show brown mushrooms:

Thanks for the pics. It looks like the shrooms in the second one.
The first picture shows a different phenotype, maybe a mistake or yet another variety. There is only little information about them in the internet. If they have to be grown like P. eryngii, they need low temperatures for fruiting. That always is a problem...

I will do some cloning today (the shrooms are still looking good)... No problem to send you a culture if it works (I don't know why it shouldn't).
@Raga: If you are interested you will of course get a culture, too.

Can anyone tell me definitively that those jars are quart jars and not half gallon jars? I just can't get a feeling for scale in the video.

Those are the type of bottles I'd like to buy but can't find. That exact shape too.

Hey man,
I would talk to these guys . I have no idea if they sell to recreational growers. I wouldn't mind having a few hundred of those bottles myself. Yesterday, I smashed a jar in my hand. I got a nasty cut on my thumb. I think my roomies were more scared than I. LOL!

Mycena and Raga, check your PM's.
Do you have Panellus stypticus (luminous)? Still looking for this one and for Macrolepiota procera.
Thank you
