Interesting. I would say not important at all. I dump hot ass water through it while steam drying oats and then load them into the pressure cooker. What's going to live on it? And even if it did, it's getting killed when the grains go into the PC, right? But then again, my shit never has anything stuck on or inside it.

You still got a dirty dish, though. I understand the aversion, but dishes will keep piling up in your sink, and you'll have nothing to cook or eat with. You could get paper plates and cups and say "fuck them dishes," but the good plasticware will cost you it you keep buying it--trust me.

I've come to the conclusion that I won't be getting mushrooms on Christmas. That's ok. One agar plate to 6 jars will take some time. They'll come eventually.

To me, a strainer is a dish in the sink--along with pots and pans. Those get cleaned.

I don't put my strainer in the sink with the regular dishes... that would piss off my lady. It has a place where it goes once its job is done.  It's probably still got an oat hull or two stuck to it right now.  It's never crossed my mind as something to be concerned about.

I suspect what's going on is some people wash their grains more than others. The more thoroughly you rinse them, the less oil and debris left on the strainer. Think about it, you are rinsing (a form or stage of cleaning) something as you use it.

Does this mean there will be nothing left and you shouldn't wipe it down? Probably not, but also probably no big deal to leave for many.

Again, maybe my imagination is terrible but I'm not wrapping my head around having grains so nasty they leave starch and residue on the strainer itself?  How could it get so bad in the short time it made contact, that your sinker sprayer doesn't knock it right off?  Are we talking like.. people who've poured overboiled WBS through their strainer and let it solidify into a fuckin bird seed brick through the metal netting of it?  Well prepped grains, especially the likes of wheat or rye, don't leave very much behind, certainly nothing a short blast of hot water doesn't resolve within 5 seconds.  So what am I missing?

i just rinse my wire strainer off and the tools i use to load jars with hot water.

been using the same tools since i first did grains winter 2005. never washed them with anything.
big metal spoon, plastic funnel deal so i dont make a mess and the strainer get thrown, wet, back
in the closet after each use. pieces of whatnot attached fukkit? who cares. it gets PCed anyway.

 i think bugs are already present if a few particles of dried, crusty grains attract them.:uhoh:

A little soap on the sponge and a quick rinse. Done. But whatever. I don't care what you do with your shit. You are the one who asked the question. If you weren't looking for a different answer short of being lazy then keep your questions to yourself.

It's like if I came in and asked is it ok to not rinse my PC out after I PC jars and agar. And people were like yeah you probably should to prevent buildup over time. And I was like but tI don't see anything or feel anything right now. And they were like yeah but you need to clean it. And I just wanted to sit there and argue away and make up reasons and debate why I don't need to give my PC at least a quick rinse. You grow up learning you need to wash things because over time dirt and stuff builds up. Sure your jars may not be contaminated after a good PC session but it's still dirty. I don't GAF what you say you are depositing residue no matter how little and it builds up over time. Dust collects. Just rinse the fucking things off.

I think I've been growing longer than you so I feel like me referencing never having noticed any buildup is valid and shows I'm not going to suddenly get build up. I didn't just start using a strainer. I run oats 90% of the time and there's never any build up. Maybe it's my grain prep? Maybe it's the grain? I donno, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And I rinse my jars once every while, but not often, because there's no build up there either. If I have oats ready to be loaded, I'll fill up a jar I just spawned without rinsing.

And I didn't ask a question about whether I should rinse my strainer. I don't care about it. Settle down, dude. Nobody is arguing and you don't need to cuss at anybody. Have fun rinsing out your dust, do whatever helps you grow better, but no need for such hostility on a totally trivial issue.

I just give the strainers a rinse, no soap. The pc and jars are another story, I try to be thorough above all with the pc cos I love it so much and that's a chance to get intimate with it. I wash it in the bathtub with warm water and then dry it up with a towel. :datass:

Yeah it's always stressful to teach someone who doesn't know jack about this. I was teaching a smart kid some months ago via skype, he was very quick to get things but it was really stressful for me because I had to translate mush cult terms from English to Spanish and I got stuck very often grasping for words. The kid I'm talking about posts sometimes in potd, the last mono he posted was from poked LC :awesomenod:

its tricky explaining the balance of sterility and sterile technique. two massively different concepts that must dance together.(imo)

she doesnt get how i can do sterile sab work while the cat takes a dump 5ft away but yet i dont wash jars.
its confusing because she says half of what i tell her doesnt make any sense. and i keep telling her it doesnt have too.

I have tried to teach one other person..he kind of went rogue on some things. He got a flush but it wasnt great..then he gets kinda salty when i show him pics of packed tubs. Have no tried to teach my wife. She has the basic concept but still asks me how i keep it sterile when i spawn a tub and mix with no gloves..silly woman

Friend of mine grows. I'm retired from growing as far as he knows.

He has his bags wrapped in a blanket because 70° is too cold  spore to grain too.

I'm just like it's bacteria bro. He doesn't listen oh well

Cubensis to WL-Tek:

It seems 0.5g sucrose to 25g paper is the minimum, almost not effective. The cubensis is continuing to colonize the black tea.
However the cubensis has just about started to show signs of response on the media, a few areas at the bottom.

Additionally, the 2.4% nitrogen sample pushed out much harder and faster than the 1.2% recipe.
Also the tea is more of a leaf powder, I will need to make a few media adjustments.

The good news is, it's about twice as responsive as oysters, no sugar.
