Smaller Jar Cons/Pros?
    #2482600 - 03/30/04 03:44 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I was looking at some of the bulk teks again after a break and noticed references to half gallon jars being used for spawn. I can see the benefits of this if you could be certain that everything went smoothly but when you are working out of a kitchen with a 15 year old pressur cooker and tupper wear I would think this is similar to putting all your eggs in one basket.

Is there anything intrinsically wrong with using smaller sized jars for larger amounts of spawn other than some potential hassles? If the point of the spawn is to mix into some compost after colonization I would think the size of the jar wouldn't really matter. Simply put is there any really compeling reasons not to just load 20-30 pint jars in an inccubator instead of a couple half gallon jars?

nothing wrong with that, besides being a lot more work. On the up side the jars will colonize much faster, and like you said, you don't have all your eggs in one basket. size of the jar doesn't matter when it comes time to dump it into the bulk sub.
