Help me identify this polypore mushroom
    #24822305 - 12/02/17 10:31 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify which species of polypore mushroom this is. I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Cool! I had seen these before and wondered about this as well. It WAS in a forest where Reishi was growing, but I never really expected Reishi to go from dark red to pale grey like that.

Here in Puerto Rico we have a few species like these, I've always wondered if they are Ganodermas, perhaps a different specie, since they dont usually look shiny red like most reishi pictures.

If someone is willing to experiment I'd be happy to send samples every once in a while when I come across one.

I'd be willing to experiment with almost any polypore. You can send samples my way.

I was also thinking a species of Ganoderma because of the rings and the flat bottom but I'm still not sure.

I'm thinking Ganoderma applanatum or similar. For sure Ganoderma. And it looks like a couple of the specimens formed off of the stumps of an earlier fruitbody that was also picked or smashed as a primordia

Applanatum is usually attached broader ime. So is Fomes Fomentarius, else I would have for sure thought about that one..

Break it open and show us the inside... Applanatum should be reddish brown with white veins and/or spots.

And I assume it has rustbrown spores?
