Well I do work with a flow hood and I can leave my blower on for hours at a time without it getting anywhere near that hot; and my blower is 1/2hp and 1500rpm. If that were my blower, I definitely wouldn't brush it off as normal even if it supposedly is
212f is boiling water hot. That is not normal in my opinion. I'd be afraid of it melting the plastic around some of the electrics.

It's rated for that temperature. The "plastic" is the insulation and its Class B. Seriously it is actually made for that. I'm not saying changing the setup couldn't make it run at a lower temperature, I'm saying it is made to run at the temperature it is at and is nothing to worry about...unless you just don't like a hot motor, which is fine.
Edit: I had to do some reading as I usually deal with a different class insulation and I only have to deal with temperature when they shut down because of it. That actually is the high end of what you can run it at. If it's Class B (I can't see the label very well) it's rated for a 80C temperature rise which is 144F + 70 =. 214. The insulation itself is rated higher than that. The higher you go above this temperature the shorter lived your motor will be. However...for a flow hood you probably wouldn't actually ever use it enough to have to replace the motor. Like if it would usually last 3 years running 24/7, now it might only last 2.75 years. Those are just random numbers, but since you aren't running it all the time that comes out to what, 15 years?
OP: People with flow hoods can help you figure out if there are changes you can make to get it to run cooler, but as long as it is wired correctly and doesn't increase temp much beyond what you posted the temperature is okay.

Did the seller mention anything about it?
Not sure. Seller had it for 10 years but had been out of the hobby most of them. Seller didn't mention anything about it.
Gets that hot about 15 minutes or so after on. Never turns off even after being in for hours. I only noticed as I hang my mask on the junction box and noticed it was hot AF after a session.
That is the hottest spot. Heat is concentrated at the center and gets higher the higher up it goes. Convection and all that fun stuff.
Yes we are 230v in UK. You can't have a power outlet in the bathroom do no blow-dryers etc. Even light switches are on the ceiling with a pull string or on the wall outside the bathroom.
Bonus trivia, you can get a 110v outlet in the bathroom and they are referred to shaver sockets.

Thanks for broadening my horizons. This was a totally new concept to me for b class motors. Is that just standard with these types of blowers?

Here in Canada, we only have kids getting 110v shocks usually.
All the plugs are 3 pin here. The 3rd pi. Is the safety. Also plugs are huge so silverware would never work. Maybe silver chopsticks..

natedawgnow said: What resistance is your filter at? I've heard that motors that work under low resistance actually do more work which causes them to shut off if thermally protected and to get really hot if they aren't. If it is an issue of resistance try putting a thick prefilter on there. I don't see one in your pics. You really should have a pre filter anyway.
No idea but it's never turned it's self off and it's run for up to 4 hours once since I've run it. I should have a prefilter and this doesn't have one. I asked before I bought it. I've only run it for 12 hours so far but I should install one. I'm guessing I should get one the same height and width of the filter and place over the inlet? Sounds like that might make it run cooler from some of the other comments.
At the end of the day it seems like a big waste of power to create all that heat.

The heat is a big waste of power. But in order for it to run cooler it needs less load. Realistically, that means for a given load, to get a cooler motor you need a bigger motor that isn't working so hard. They get more expensive VERY quickly.

I think...
Either that or your blower is at the end of it's life, running hotter due to bearings being worn out and such...
Hope you get it sorted dude, I'd be worried as well. Mine gets hot too, but I have no clue how hot. I just know the outside box feels warm, but there's no way to touch the blower itself. I can leave it running for a few hours before feeling any warmth on the blower box though.
