I.D. request (bad photo, sorry)
    #24818242 - 12/01/17 03:24 AM (6 years, 3 months ago)

I'm hopeful it is a Psilocybe pelliculosa

Habitat:
Highly manicured mulch bed, of dark black-brown small wood chips. Mostly a mushroom free area which is how these caught my attention.

Gills:
Orange - light brown

Stem:
Small, turgid, slightly red looking and white to purple.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical, convex.

Spore print color:
Purple - dark

Bruising:
Very minor but noticeable bluing along the margin.

Other information:
-Signs that slugs have been eating most of the gills and some of the cap on most of these.

Thanks for helping me out, sorry about the bad photo!

Stems look off for that species, however the pictures aren't really good enough to make a safe identification.

I cant think of anything else other than that species or Hypholoma capnoides that would have such a large cap and skinny white stems growing in mulch.
But yes, better pictures are needed. I would say Hypholoma at least. What you think?

I found 30-40 P.pelliculosa today. P. pelliculosa likes old clear cuts and is always associated with Galerina, Mycena and Naematolma fasciculare (sulfur tuft). they look like P semilancaeta but they dont grow in grass. they are tiny and can be hard to spot. also time and again you will be fooled by the Mycena, however look close , because some of those mycena might actually be pelliculosa. the easiest way to know is check to see if their is a separable pellicle. hence the name pelliculosa. also some bluish bruising near the base may occur.
