Status update: After transferring to alder chips a few weeks ago, I have had the chip bags outside. It has been cold, but warmed up to the 40's. The PF-tek spawn is bridging nicely to the chips and beginning to spread. As the weather warms, I expect them to speed up, but they are already doing nicely.

Mycelium has spread almost eight inches on either side of the spawn lines, where I planted spawn in the wood chips. I have gallons of mycelial mass in the chips now. Watering twice a week.

So have you planted the beds yet? Or are you still expanding your mycelium?

I spawned to the wood chips some months ago. The mycelium has spread densely through the chip bed; it's almost solid now.

Just thought I'd post the results. They are flushing hard. I have three patches, this is currently the biggest. Inch and a half of rain two days ago, temps have been in the 50's, down into upper 40's.

Just looked at my join date. Almost exactly a year to success. I owe most of it to this site and group, and I thank you all.

And the next season, more... There are probably fifty in the first photo alone.

Some notes for anyone doing this. I added chips to the bed last december. I had piled the chips next to the bed to see if more would come up. The chips were there for a month. When I shoveled the chips onto the bed, I found that mycelia had spread two feet into the chips. Cyans are aggressive!
The bed is rock hard with mycelia. The flushing started on 9/20. It slowed, and then it rained hard last night, and the second flush is coming hard, probably twice as big as the first flush. There are probably 200+ caps out now, and I'm a little scared to see what comes tomorrow. I expect a smaller third flush in 3 weeks or so.
For the record, the chips are kept wet with tap water, with plenty of chlorine in it, over the summer. Doesn't seem to faze them. The fruits are concentrated . around the edges of the patch, heaviest on the side with the most light.

Absolutely reach out. I've learned some things. If you're starting from PFTek, I'd modify the mix to include 20 percent alder chips. Do that in quart jars, then you can spawn straight to chip beds.

Im going from spore syringe to agar to grain.....Once things are in good shape I’m just going to go spread the colonized grain everyplace I think they might grow
I’m going to need an eyeball at each stage to confirm what’s growing looks right

I'd mix some chips in with the grain. I think it will help the mycelia bridge from the grain to the new substrate. Maybe like 20% chips. Use alder smoking chips, soak them before PC'ing them.
