I failed at getting my pan cyan jamaican to grow on agar and only got a few grains to colonize in 1 of 8 jars before it stalled. I decided to transfer the few grains I had to sterilized hpoo/verm.
It has been 8 days since the transfer and although growth is still slow, it hasn't stalled like the WBS jars.

Thats unfortunate. First, keep at the agar. Second, you are suppose to pasteurize the sub, not sterilize it. Third, try cubes before diving in to the deep end.

pasturization vs sterilization doesn't matter if you treat them right, sterilization just requires sterile (aseptic rather) technique, where pasturization can be exposed to open air for a couple weeks before going bad (unless colonized within that time)

yeah, tryptakaloids is right about that and i would further add that if you're doing Macmerdin-style manure cakes like in the picture you do actually need to sterilize your growth medium. it is going to be used as is and will not be spawned to substrate so any competitor pathogens need to be eliminated in order to achieve success. and as this is the Official Copelandia/Panaeolus thread those who contribute to it try to be supportive when offering advice rather than talking down to one another. you are more than welcome to be a part of this community but please refrain from making rude comments like:

Pans have far better fightin skills. Hailing from the tropics, it's a non-stop arms race from an Evolutionary standpoint.
Sucky thing is ... you are practically guaranteed to have contams mixed in a syringe. No veil like cubes, so no physical protection under the cap.

Im doing pan tropicals in a different way thats really making a difference
Pan tropicals new mix 1 full cup water 1 full cup wheat One premade handful verm/coir mix one handful Manure
PC all together for two hours
Cut up two plates colonized agar, very fine for each small sized grow bag, then mix like crazy and lay bags on their side to get maximum growth surface
DONT TOUCH BAGS UNTILL They're ready for fruiting, and fruit like normal in your choice of fruiting chambers.
I dont thinks pans like to be harassed while they are trying to colonize so mixing up the colonized grain in the manure is counterproductive and all my (cake) style bags are ready for their fruiting chamber in around 7 to 8 days

interesting, that may offer the quickest path from inoculation to fruiting that i've heard of. are you just fruiting them out of the bag or do you crumble and case to trays or something else?

I am just fruiting them from the bag , i cut the top half of the bag off and case with jiffy mix then put them in the fruiting chamber

Hey folks, unfortunately all my Pan Cyan grain jars have either stalled or become dry and after more than 6 weeks I don’t have much to show for it. On the bright side the Macmerdin style cpoo Pan cakes that I inoculated 5 weeks ago seem to be colonizing well. I was hoping to get a more experienced pair of eyes from the community here to tell me if these seem ready for birthing and if there any contaminants in them. Any help is appreciated!

inoculated 3 weeks ago with agar wedge. wbs. most of the mycelium is pale blue but i think i see some gray spots that don't look like mycelium :/
(its not a ashtray in the background i don't smoke cigarettes i keep a few in a jar so that the tobacco is fresh when i roll me a hash joint, sometimes i put tobacco inside a bag of potato peels or apple peels for a few hours if the tobacco has dried out. but now i just use some damp perlite instead. i don't smoke in the grow room of course but the last few days I've been rolling in there cause its more Zen than the living room right now, gfs cousin in crashing on the couch)

I use the tobacco to crumble hash into and roll a joint but I'm gonna stop using tobacco as soon as i find something that burns as good.
Germs, its Pan Cyan Goliath. can it be fruited from the quart jar with some coir and verm on top?
