What is a neocon?
    #2480613 - 03/29/04 04:07 PM (20 years, 3 days ago)

It seems some members here like to throw around the word "neocon," so I'd like to see if we can come up with a definition we all agree on. Here's how I define it:

Neocon: n. A person who supports authoritarian domestic policy, radical militarism, interventionist foreign policy, and believes in America's moral authority to impose its will on other countries through force.

It's not a puppet, I had a bean burrito, popcorn, an egg and a beer for lunch.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

Hey, how about lighting a candle instead of cursing the darkness. There actaully is a definition of neo-conservative. Find it, post it and let's talk about it

neoconservatism n. An intellectual and political movement in favor of political, economic, and social conservatism that arose in opposition to the perceived liberalism of the 1960s: ?The neo-conservatism of the 1980s is a replay of the New Conservatism of the 1950s, which was itself a replay of the New Era philosophy of the 1920s? (Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.).

Well I'll be damned! I guess I owe Alex an apology. By this definition, there ARE some neocons on this board.

Why am I not surprised that this is significantly different from your thread start?

I believe the connotation of neocon(servative) as
it is popularly used today seems a little closer to
SS7's original definition.

possibly because this latest crop of politicos currently
brandishing the label as their own are either trying
to shield their radicalism behind an otherwise benign
(or untainted) political label, or they are simply trying
to revolutionize the notion of neoconservatism as we
currently know it.

either way, the def in the dictionary doesn't really
square well with current neocon policy, if it's safe
to call it that.

It only seems "significantly different" in that it is significantly more vague.

So I guess Alex was right all along.

I like everyone on this board, but it seems as though some people can't handle the fact that they are a neocon. People just need to accept who they are.

What the fuck???? This is like nailing down jello. Do you think that you can agree on a definition so I can discern whether I am one or not.

Now that we've seen the dictionary definition, there isn't much to agree or disagree on is there?

I still have no clue as to what it means. The dictionary definition seems to refer to itself for a definition or just says what neo-con is not. It is elsewhere typically referred to as a Jewish thing. Part of the Jewish/Illuminati cabal that controls the world.

I'll just be happy if you can tell me what exactly you mean by the term Neo-con. Anything you make up will be fine with me as long as I can understand what you are talking about

:smile2:

Amazing the amount of endless shit these people can spew out while being so utterly wrong.

but it seems as though some people can't handle the fact that they are a neocon

Wonder why they find it so offensive? Maybe it just doesn't sound as cool as whatever they like to think they are.
