Is the Netherlands moving to the right?
    #2481615 - 03/29/04 10:23 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Does anybody from the Netherlands have any comments on the whole anti-immigration, anti-working class movement that's going on over there? I just started hearing about this stuff and it scares me a lot. I'm from the U.S. and I've been pretty sick of this country for a long time. Moving to a liberal, socialist influenced country like the Netherlands has been something I've been interested in to get away from the bullshit police state the U.S. has become in the past few years. Now I read that Rotterdam is having a shit fit about a mosque going up in town, 26,000 asylum-seekers are to be expelled, and Rotterdam wants basically BAN ALL POOR PEOPLE from the city... not to mention what looks like an anti-immigration trend sweeping the rest of Europe (particularly aimed at Muslims?). What the hell is going on, and why? How can we make it stop?

I hope you've heard wrong.

My ultimate dream is to move near Amsterdam.

I don't know much about the specifics of Holland but I understand the anti-muslim sentiment. Some muslims want to take over. They want to bring down the first world countries from within. Other muslims just want a better life for their family. But either way things are going to get just a little crappier for the average citizen of country x as this world keeps getting too many more people than it can handle. It's tricky.

According to friends and relatives in The Netherlands, the largest group causing violent crime are Moroccans, they refuse to become part of Dutch society and are exceedingly intolerant compared to your average Dutchman (or Dutch woman). They also have a much higher birth rate. If present demographic trends continue, the Netherlands will cease to be a model of tolerance.

The Dutch are not anti-working class. However, the social welfare system's expenses are becoming too great as the population ages and adjustments have to be made so the government can avoid future bankruptcy.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
