Bruised cakes!
    #24804958 - 11/25/17 06:03 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Good morning!

So my 3 cakes have been fruiting pretty well. The mushrooms don't get too big, but there's quite a bit of them. From one cake I've already got over 4 grams dry in one day. Idk if that's good... But I felt like bragging? Haha. Anyways, the cakes are very bruised. I assume they are drying out. The room has a space heater going to keep it around 75°f but the room humidity is like 30%. I fan the cakes about 4 to 6 times a day depending on when I'm sleeping, working or whatever. I give the tank a good misting everytime as well.

But I want to know how and when to dunk the poor blue things. They keep pinning... The last time I did a dunk I did 24hrs and then put them back in the tank... They had a weird slime on them and smelled like a mile ammonia smell... So I had to toss them. I really really don't want that to happen again... So please someone...hold my hand like a little blind baby and help!lol

I appreciate it

How long should they be dunked for? Do they need to be re rolled in vermiculite? I've read so many different things... I don't know what the best thing to do is.

And what if they won't stop pinning? How do i flush then?!

They take breaks in between flushes then pin again. Dunk for a few hours to max of a day in between.

IF your using a Shot Gun Fruiting Chamber there is NO reason to fan.

4g is not a bad yield at all for your 1st go around. Hell some people who have been at this have a hard time getting yields like that for some reason.

No need to reroll after 1st flush. ONLY time I have done a 2nd roll was 2 days after the 1st one because verm didn't stick very well.

Be careful to ONLY mist when they show surface drying. Over saturation/misting can cause issues as well. If the vermiculite starts to lighten up in color that is a good indication to mist. Make sure you do not spray them directly. Spay a mist above them and allow it to settle down on them. Misting them directly can also cause bruising some times, if you spray to hard/close.

Cubensis mushrooms in general smell like dirty feet.
