Help Cookie go back to the stone age of cell phones 1

The scoop:
I have always had beastly little phones that survived 5 plus years and capable of surviving teenage rage and regularly being thrown (without a case) and dropped and kicked and submerged in the ocean and just generally being abused more than an orphan in Moscow. And then in 2013 my 4 year old dropped in the ocean text phone finally went caput and I went to Verizon and got a shiny new text phone with a fat screen (for a text phone) a month after buying this 150 dollar phone I did what I do and dropped it down the steps. Of course it immediately broke. The screen cracked and the "ink" slowly bled out to eventually take up 3 quarters of the screen. And of course I continued to use it because I hatr wasting things. I used it, for texting and calls, until thr keys started getting stuck and my gf and friends got me to my current phone in early 2016. The LG Enact. Let me just say I love this phone and what it's supposed to do.
But other than that I fucking hate it. Because it doesn't work as it is supposed to. It's a 2013 smartphone with a slide out keyboard (which is what sold me on it). But that is where the major problems are I think. 4 years is outdated these days so I think there's some software conflicts, making the phone lag. Options also don't do what they claim to and the phone will update or do processes whenever the fuck it wants. It's slow when I'm trying to do shit like call 911 and not die. It will "hiccup" and close apps or disconnect Bluetooth. It has limited memory, 8gb and 5 of that is being soaked up by system files. So I can't install all these fancy apps to make my phone suck less dick. Ando I can't install and operate all the apps my friends talked me into getting a smartphone for. Also I can't make phone calls without turning off Bluetooth capability and restarting the phone. Or rather I can't have anyone hear me because I think it's trying to put my mic feedback in a Bluetooth mic even if I have that option off, the device doesn't have a mic, and even if it isn't connected.
So my phone isn't much working like a phone now. It's been beat up a little but not bad. Just the standard fall out of pocket thing. It has a case so that's probably saved it from a screen break. But now the slide is fucking up. The connection between the phone and the screen is no longer stable. So if I try to use the keyboard the screen goes out. Leaving the phone unusable, unlike my old phones I could still text and dial blind. Yeah on a smartphone it's like trying to use a computer without a screen. It is not a phone, it's a computer. A shitty one. Too small to play games on or multitasking with. Memory is too limited to store libraries on. I've seen the new and improved smartphones and they're the size of a fucking book. Too big to hold in the hand and too small to have the nice fat multiday battery I have. And yet infinitely more vulnerable to virus and hackers than computers. And fragile. I've seen people sit on their phone once, drop it on the carpet in the case, instantly ruined. I've been unable to open the slide so I've had to use the on screen keypad. When ttyping horizontally in a browser text box like this the room between the address bar and the keypad is about half a centimeter... And since I can't see the prior line and a fake keypad takes longer it really fucks with my short term memory and I'm not sure I've been making any sense at all. The keypad is almost unusable for my fucked up fingers when the phone is vertical. And Verizon install a security update that opens an ap every time I go to a webpage (even on the same site) and flips the screen vertically until I tap and shake it enough to get it back over. Also I've accidentally clicked Logout or on an ad alot due to the flipping and lag.
Also also (yeah memory issues here) I've had to do a factory reset every 3 months since about midway through 2016. I don't honestly know why. Neither does Verizon. It just starts getting really buggy and randomly shuts down or freezes. Much like a computer with viruses. haven't found a virus though. That was tolerable enough but the hardware issues now...
Frankly I'm fucking done. It was a fun experiment but it's time to be done with it. I think I may get a tablet for mobile gaming and audible but I'm going back to dumb old dinosaur phones.
The TLDR is I dunno what to get. I want internet access so I can keep up my shroomery addiction and Google shit right quick when I need. And I'd prefer a qwerty keypad but I now know they make external keypads I could connect to one if need be. Keypad is nonessential but buttons are. Idm if it has s touchscreen but it needs a keypad or dialpad. I'd also prefer a medium sized screen, larger than 1in. But the most important thing, what you never read in the specs, is reliability. I want to be able to use the phone for its intended purposes without breaking and to be able to drop it once in a while without it shattering like an uncooked egg
What you guys got? Suggestions?
Wanna share your history of cellular phones too? I'll listen to your complaints and be interested in your successes.
Edit: since people keep saying shit about my cheap phone I'd like to say the enact was over 300 dollars (499 release price) and that's a big reason I'm pissed off.

Cookie, smartphones are like disposable now-a-days. I can't tell you how many different android smartphones I've went through just from ditching theme in moments of extreme drug induced paranoia. You can literally go to Wal-mart right now and pick up a standard smartphone for around $30. Then you root that shit, install custom roms, and remove all the bloatware to fully optimize your piece of technology without it having "restricted" capabilities. As a matter of fact, like 6 months ago I bought a "phablet" with a stylus pen off one of my co-workers for just 50 bucks.
And if you do decide to go the route of using a tablet for all your multimedia needs, remember you can always download a free text app and be able to make calls/text whenever you're around wi-fi. Wifi is literally everywhere in a modern city, so why pay that $50 - $70 a month service bill?

Also, I think the problem you were experiencing with your smartphone is purely software related. As in, your phone is somehow collecting malicious programs or operations through activities or network connections you are making. I'm interested to see if the same phone has the same problems after 3 months of just using it as an mp3 player or something simple of that nature and never connecting to the internet or updating or downloading anything.

See my underlying issue here is that they're fucking not disposable and are full of precious minerals that we will be running short on soon.
Cleaning out call the nonsense has been okay but this phone at least will not let me manipulate system files. Even if it could i'm not sure I'd want to.
I'm pretty much exclusively paying for 1gb data to be on the shroomery at work and to continue using thr net when my home internet goes out. Which it does pretty regularly since it's being used by 4-5 different devices at the same time and at least one of those is streaming.
I'd be rather reluctant to give up mobile internet but it might keep me from pulling out my hair.

Thanks for the input though

Actually did that. Turned off data and only used my home WiFi and only used Google searches (didn't enter any links) or the shroomery. It still bugged out after a few months.
Didn't stop updates though and I do believe that is the issue. Not an uncommon one I don't think when old hardware and software get crammed with new software bad things tend to happen.

Precious minerals we'll be running short of? You mean to say one day in the future I wont have to hear these spoiled ass entitled kids whining because they don't have the newest iphone?
You'll have to install root or superuser access to manipulate your system files or turn your phone into an actual computer.

It's pretty awesome though. Face unlock is absolutely flawless. It's nice having a device that is pretty much seamless with my laptop.

recycle the old phone. but yeah, with the major software upgrades these new phones go through the hardware that was cutting edge at the time cannot keep up with the new requirements making the phone go to absolute shit.
but yeah with all the precious metals in them, recycling is the best bet to keep somewhat of a good conscience about getting a new phone.

Had to google face unlock, and it's pretty self-explanatory. That technology is both exciting... and fucking scary.

lots of smart phones use flash memory and a common type is NAND which works well for price and speed but as your device fulls up NAND system gets slower and slower. It needs a certain number of empty "blocks" to run at peak data writing. they also have cycle limits per memory cell, when it is reached the speed of the device will suffer!
I wouldn't fill the device over 70% in memory in order for your device to run full speed
Samsung uses their TLC NAND operating system which is cheap to produce but slows down hella quick
Im back on a Motorola flip phone ! its badass, you can tell everyone gets jealous when they see me using a sleek well built flip phone!!

There's always recycling.
I kind of miss my phone with a slide-out keyboard. Doesn't work with my phone network any more though.

Motorola really sussed it for the whole feel of the phone the keys feel good, the phone feels somewhat solid and the flip action is real nice.
I just hope they don't change the mobile network too soon so I can still use these bad boys at least for a few more years!

So to sum it up, you kinda wanted to try a smartphone, so you bought a super cheap one, and are disappointed with how cheap and shitty it is?
Have you tried some of the newer smartphones? What's with the touch-screen keyboard hate? It might take a week or two to get used to, but once you get the hang of it they work seamlessly. They even vibrate a little every time you touch a key
I'm also not familiar with these incredibly delicate smart phones... Are you dropping it from like over 10ft lol? I had my old phone for over 3 years, dropped it countless times and it worked perfectly up till the end when it had some software problems.
I managed to drop my new phone behind a piano (without a case) the other day. It was a pain in the ass to move the piano, but the phone was fine, not even a scratch

Me and my wife both got new phones like 3-4 years ago at the same time both got the same phone. My phone still works fine but hers was broken maybe a year after we got them and she has went thru 2 phones after that. So like 5-6 months ago we both got new phones again both got the same phone it's an LG stylo 3 I think I really like the phone as does she but she is just so hard on her phones really hard lol but I think if you get a rubber case for your phone really makes a difference IMO cause it absorbs the shock
