how many blockchains are there?
    #24797082 - 11/21/17 03:59 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I thought I read that there's plenty of blockchains. Is this true?

CoinMarketCap.com lists the value of all crypto coins and tokens.  If it's considered a coin, that mean it operates on its own independent blockchain, whereas tokens typically operate on the Ethereum blockchain.

Here's a list of all the coins: https://coinmarketcap.com/coins/views/all/

Blockchain is the tech, cryptocurrencies are just one aspect of how blockchains can be used.

For example, the diamond trade.  Some diamond exporters are looking to use the blockchain to follow their products.

Look at this video - http://fortune.com/2017/09/12/diamond-blockchain-everledger/

Have fun,
Lana

That's an excellent point Lana.  There are many blockchains that do not involve a publicly available coin, several banks have started to work on creating their own in house blockchain networks to experiment on solutions for faster settlement.  Over 20 banks join Singapore-Hong Kong blockchain trade networkState Bank of India to beta test blockchain smart contracts next month.  Even JPMorgan, whose CEO has trolled bitcoin as a fraud, has a webpage up extolling their efforts on integrating blockchain technology.
