The wet error
    #24795205 - 11/20/17 11:03 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Tek's say be sure not to get the substrate too wet before inoculation.

My tendency would be to err on the side of wet rather than dry to insure there's enough moisture throughout the process.

What bad things actually happen if the substrate is drippy?

Also, some tek's say to mist the cakes, others say only do the sides and top of the fruiting chamber.

What would be the problem with directly spraying the cakes? Why isn't it just like rain?

If a substrate is too wet it provides a better environment for bacterial contamination as well as making less ideal for the mycelium.

Mist cakes directly, you are correct there, but don't go overboard. Once a day should be plenty. In nature the mycelium of cubensis is typically protected by a pile of shit, so it doesn't get rained on directly; which is why you mist instead of spray.

Edit: This is assuming you are using an SGFC, for which there are many teks.

Good luck!

Yeah you DO NOT WANT YOUR SUBS TOO WET!  It can cause bacterial contamination and the mushroom myc won't grow as well.
