RockHounding is how I get through life
I live in the Black Hills region, so rocks and minerals are abundant to say the least. Silicates, crystals, quartz, pegmitites, agates, precious metals and gems. Good stuff around here.

I want to do that! I am starting a gemstone collection, though im more into cutting and grading rather then the whole mystic properties thing. It is however interesting you mention this while im trying to plan a trip to that area late summer for some solo camping / back packing adventure.

I do appreciate the rough stones as well and have always wanted to mine and find my own

First off, yes I love rocks And hunting for them. I think my favorite place of rock discoveries is a little honeyhole in northern tennessee. There you can find simple quartz geodes the size of your head and they are everywhere. there are also a ton of fossils there includong what looks like massive prehistoric cat paw prints in the bed rock. Its one of my favorite places on earth. I also spent a good amount of time in colorado near pikes peak/crystal park mostly finding amAzonites. Then there was new mexico and flourite. Arkansas and beautiful quartz. Yes i love rocks :cokeitch:

as foR this....

It looks like a broken piece of glazed pottery - more than likely with a glass melt on it...
kinda like this one that i have:
or this tile i found on the webs:

As for the color changing..i've read that fading sometimes happens to glass melts on pottery. It seems odd to me and i've never witnessed it, but supposedly it's been known to happen.

Of course, it could be something else entirely, but that's just me two cents. :strokebeard2:

This isn't a melted chunk of glass with a rock in it, it's actually two gemstones in a complex-

It's epidote and prehnite, i found it on the coast!

When I was living in Northern Cali I found 4 agates on this one beach. Had to dig through a bunch rocks to find them. They are really cool looking. I would like to do that again. I enjoy gems and rocks but never really looked into what I could find around me.

Rockhound here with 5 mining claims. I own the lost pockets aquamarine mine, jumpin jeep mosss agate mine, and the stary night fire obsidian claim.
I also kinda run the user created feature forums for crystals and shit otherwise this just gets flushed in a few days usually.

Any of them out east?  I'm in La Grande right now.  I've been watching geology lectures and learning a lot about the basalt lava flows and the geology of the coast!
